F'n Brilliant! 31 Jan 2004

Incredibly talented guitar player, visionary vocalist, and haunting lyricist... I'm certain that Hazel will not suit the tastes of mainstream audiences, but I am so thankful that I discovered her music because it moves me as music should.

simply brilliant 30 Nov 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
How to describe this musical journey? - dissonent, laboured, visceral, joyful darkness. All the usual inadequate ways we have of trying to define music fall short of this raw and bloody musical masterpiece. Listening to the album you can imagine that Hazel has used it as a catharsis, airing her soul for an outpouring of primal release. Not that the songs are not tuneful, because they are in a catchy sometimes jaunty way which belies the subject matter.

pure brilliance

CSI: Bristol 17 Jan 2009
Format:Audio CD
I'm currently revisiting Bristol-based Hazel Winter's back catalogue after the recent release of her glorious Situation Normal Then album. Sharp Knives is right because this is a collection of lyrically brilliant songs right on the bloody edge. Tightly-produced high angst guitar rock suffused with dark, visceral humour. A taste well worth acquiring.
