I would dearly love to see the uncut French version, but until such time this Eurotica release will more than suffice. Pussy Talk was one of the first films made in France to make full use of the the more liberal laws that came about in the early seventies. Those used to seeing soft core 70's porn will be surprised by the strength of the set pieces, and this is the great thing about the film. Unlike porn in the age of video/DVD production, this film has an erotic story and erotic situations. The talking pussy with its ferocious sexual appetite is a means to lead the unfortunate owner (Joan) through her journey of self discovery. Later on the pussy relates tales of its owners chequered past and this gives the story a new direction as it explores the ways in which the teenaged Joan tried to lose her virginity. These erotic interludes occur regularly enough so that the film never flags and the sex scenes don't always fall immediately into the cliche of stripping and intercourse. There are a lot of typical fantasies all of which work nicely, as much for their teasing dialogue as the promise of a more visual debaucery.
The DVD has scenes that never appeared on the original VHS release of more than 20 years ago, and in fact the DVD release has nearly 15 minutes of restored footage. The flashback teenage years section benefits the most from this, though there is an extra scene towards the end of the film that wasn't event hinted at in the original video release. The odd genital close-up hints at the hardcore nature of the uncut original, and as even this version only lasts 82 minutes, I'd guess there's a further 10 minutes of the harder stuff for French audiences to enjoy.
The picture quality is very good, though sadly the special features don't run to a subtitled French language version and the photo gallery is so slim as be fairly pointless. There is a half hour documentary included and profiles of the main players in the films production. In my view 1970's porn made more of an effort to be arousing in it's script and Pussy Talk is one of the best exampls. Far better than Emmanuelle or the British DVD release of Deep Throat.
