CD Description

Let’s get this straight. The Human Value are not just another female fronted New Yawker project. Sure – lead singer Turu is a pouty-lipped sultress hailing from NYC. But her partner in crime, guitarist and sometime vocalist Hiram Fleites, is Cuban born and bred. Although their sound is dark and intelligently unhinged in an underground east coast way, the west coast is where, along now with London, they call home. The pair met on a red-eye flight and they’ve been flying high on mutual music ever since. When Hiram’s Sony labelled band Kittens For Christian disbanded they formed The Human Value and headed to the famous Music Row in Nashville to get busy writing and recording. ‘The Human Value’ quickly put a band together, started gigging and soon found themselves on stage as regulars at The Viper Room. But the pair decided to pack their bags and hit England when the great internet buzz on the other side of the pond spiked their ever present wanderlust. “We didn’t want to live in a bubble,” explains Hiram. “You’ve got to get out of your safety zone. We realised this (LA) is a pocket - we need to get to the world, we’re going to London.” Now on both their second CD and second go-round in the UK Turu says, “This record is like the evolution of both of us as musicians.” It plays like its ‘live.’ Turu’s gender bending, sex-goddess-yet-mighty persona also stretches to her lyrics. She shies away from the staple female singer sound that rotates themes of jilted ex’s or heartbreak. It’s more about just being able to survive and function as a human. Tracks: Pleasent Town / Pretty Mouth / No Sacrifice / I Don't Care / Complications No. 2 / Hold Of Me / Spite / Alibi / Parts / Nothing / Home Is Not Real / Deep Blue / Push And Pull.
