Book Description

13 Feb 2012
Chalene Johnson built a fitness empire from the ground up, selling over 6 million DVDs and helping legions of loyal fans shed pounds and transform their lives with her trademark enthusiasm and energy. "Push", Chalene's first book ever, distils the wisdom that has made her a fitness queen into a totally unique 30-day system that will help readers reset their priorities, get their lives together, and lose weight for good. Chalene gives readers the life-changing tools they need to change their habits with 30 days of practical steps that include pinpointing goals, reverse engineering a course of action to achieve them, and kicking the clutter - whether that means junk food, draining exercise regimens, or toxic relationships. In one month, readers will learn how to create layers of accountability and support so that success is their only option. Additionally, Chalene shares 30 ridiculously easy and delicious Throw-and-Go recipes that she (a self-confessed mess in the kitchen) created herself. And, of course, no book from Chalene would be complete without a workout! Chalene guides readers to find their soul mate workouts - the exercises they'll love for life and that will never feel like work. Finally, she gives readers the Bangin' Body Workout: the 30 moves they need for total body fitness - for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love love love 8 Feb 2013

I love Chalene Johnson. Am following her exercise videos everyday and they never bore me.
She is always energetic and encouraging. In this book, she is more a life style coach. I hate the sort of life coach books but she is so lovely. I don't mind being persuaded.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 4 Jan 2012
By JKM - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a huge Turbo Kick fan and love Chalene's energy and spunky sassy style, so I really wanted to like this book. There are some good tips for basic goal setting and dreaming big - gotta appreciate her enthusiasm and zest for life - but a few things just really didn't sit right with me. For one, her comment to really try to stay married if you really love your kids irked me - she further adds that kids of divorce are more likely to be obese (this is obviously complicated issue and there is conflicting data on the subject). It is wonderful that Chalene has a strong marriage, but this jab at those that are in a different situation felt lame and preachy.

Additionally, her recipes were so disappointing. How can anyone call a recipe made with Shakeology, Pudding Mix, and Crystal Light "healthy" - yuck. The other "cleaner" recipes were ridiculous - I don't need to know how to toast a piece of bread or how to bake a sweet potato and sprinkle nutmeg on it (that one she calls "Sweet Potato Pie"). The exercises were all pretty basic too. This might be a good book for someone just beginning to work out and/or find themselves, but it was definitely not for me. I'm still a fan of her work and her energy, she is no doubt a rockin' chick, just not at all a fan of this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can I get a woot woot! 28 Dec 2011
By Sal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If there were not so many pictures of her in the book, it would be half the size. It is written and presented in a very "look at me" style. In my opinion most of what is here is regurgitated material from every other goal setting self help and weight loss\exercise book. If you are a fan of Chalene, then this might be the book for you. If someone asking "Can I get a woot woot!" makes you cringe, then maybe not so much. Most if not all the material in here that would certainly work if you can apply it. I liked the material but not so much the style in which it was presented.

2.0 out of 5 stars I love me some Chalene, so, with that said... 2 Jan 2012
By MObetta - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
...Chalene loves her some Chalene, too! I am a huge fan of her ChaLEAN Extreme and Turbo Fire workouts so when she sent the word about releasing her PUSH via twitter, of course I was on board! She is extremely motivational in her workouts; it's what separates her from the rest (for me, anyway)!

But this book leaves much to be desired. By the time you get to day two, you can already tell this is about Chalene, and the rest of us are just along for the ride. There are a gazillion pictures of her doing mundane tasks like hopping in her expensive car or putting on her expensive shoes or lounging on her couch listening to music through her headphones (yeah, they're probably expensive, too). By the way, I'm not hating, just don't see the relevance or why these shots were included.

As for the tone of the book? Well, it reads like she's begging you to get your life together. Well, with all due respect, me wanting to get my life together was implied...I mean, I did buy the book, didn't I? So no further coersion is needed. After a while (read: by day 2) it becomes a bit condescending.

Chalene, I love your workouts but as for motivating me to get the life I deserve, well, I'm going to leave that to the good Lord and my own common sense.
