a companion to help you through your IVF cycle, 17 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: In Pursuit of Parenthood: Experiences of IVF (Paperback)
This book has helped me through 3 unsuccessful attempts at IVF. Kate Brian writes openly about the physical and emotional steps involved - what to expect next, how you will feel about it, ways of coping, what to tell people. There are so few books on infertility written from a British rather than an American perspective, and this is one of the best. Kate Brian has been through IVF herself, and her sense of humour and compassion for other people sharing her experience come through very strongly.

IVF treatment from an emotional point of view, 12 Jun 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: In Pursuit of Parenthood: Experiences of IVF (Paperback)
As someone who is just at the very beginning stages of IVF I was looking for something which would explain the processes, both physical and emotional, in a way that was not just medical jargon. I have the information from the hospital which tells me what is going to happen but I could find no information of how I would feel - until I read this book. Kate Brian writes from experience, she has had failure and success and takes you through the emotions of both. There are also interviews with other couples who have gone through IVF treatment and by reading their stories you realise just how different peoples situations are and how they cope with them. And all the experiences are British, a real bonus when so many books on this subject are from an American point of view. I am a few months off from my treatment starting but I now have a clearer idea of what it might feel like - the pressures and emotions as well as the physical procedures. I am trying to persuade my husband to read it to help us prepare for this together. This book is a fantastic insight into the human reality of IVF and a must-read for all those going through infertility.

So its not just me!, 6 Feb 2003
This review is from: In Pursuit of Parenthood: Experiences of IVF (Paperback)
I have read books about the science part of IVF but this book concentrated more on actual peoples life experiences, the part the clinics dont tell you. It was incredibly reassuring to know that my husband and i were not the only people to feel angry and upset, and it was normal to feel this way. The book helped me focus on how i feel and i found myself agreeing with the other couples. It made me realise that i need not feel ashamed about seeking help, and that no-one else but couples who have had IVF will understand. A thoroughly recommended book.
