5.0 out of 5 stars Classic historical erotica 15 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Purity is the best piece of historical erotica I have read. It is well researched and well thought out, with good, three-dimensional characters. The drammatic action and sex are well balanced, with the effort that has gone into the research making the erotic scenes that much more believeable. It is raw, dirty and fast, with some of the best set-pieces I have ever read. I enjoyed it enormously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb piece of historical deviance 24 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This and 'Tiger, Tiger' are my two favourite Aishling Morgan novels. For those who don't know, Morgan is one of the most talented authors working in the field of erotica at present, with about seven novels to his name, and published by Nexus, probably the best of the erotica imprints out there. The plot and standard of writing are a lot higher than you'd imagine if your experience of erotic writing is limited to reading the stories in Club or a similarly awful British top-shelf rag. This one's the sequel to 'The Rake', set in the late 18th Century, and expands upon its predecessors world of rakish young men, wanton strumpets, sinister villains, immense and decadent feasts and - chimpanzees. It's an entertaining combination, and a fun read, as well as working very well as erotica - a treat for the head and the pants. Did I really say that?

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it 15 July 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
So, what should we expect from erotic fiction? Definately something like this!
The setting is England in the times of the french revolution (one of cartoonist Gothas favorite settings), but the "mood" is - at least to some extent - victorian. We meet a world where men are dominant, cynical, arrogant and seeking only their own pleasure in their encounters with the opposite sex. The women are obediant playthings, willing to be used for any - and i mean ANY - kind of sexual game at the snap of male fingers. They also engage - erotica correctly - in concensual and non-concensual lesbian sex in between the battles.
Behind there is a fairly well written story, and characters that could be developed better, but certainly also poorer.

I liked it as a good porn story, with some build-up, a lot of sex scenes and a tuch of D/s, though not intended. But this sex is not for the feminists!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of thing. 23 July 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This historical 'erotica' novel features poorly described (and somewhat emotionless) sex. Even worst is the main female character's attachment to watersports, which grossed me out and kept me from finishing the book (which wasn't particularly interesting to begin with). I doubt very seriously that I will be reading anything else by this author. Skip it.
