DJ EZ and Todd Edwards have both been in the game longer than I care to remeber, Todd mixing up smashed up vocals and EZ playing more of a two step flava, which is cool. This time, the guys have decided to go for the more upbeat garage, 4 to the floor beats, messed up R&B vocals and no sign of dodgy commercial garage, something which I admire of EZ, Todd and the record company.
CD1 is EZ' mix, which is focused on skippy 4 to the floor beats, hard basslines and funky keybaords. Some hot moments include CJ Bolland's "sugar is sweeter", with it's muffled vocals and Armand's classic garage remixing style; big beats and hard basslines and repeating segments of the vocal. Zach Tom's more vocal offering "Don't bring me down", EZ's own "hard 4/4 for you", with it's pounding beats; and of course Double 99's club smash, RIP Groove, with it's excellent bassline and jump up vocals. If this doesn't have you up and dancing, you've obviously missed the point. Of course, there's the excellent Smokin' Beats with the bass driven "dreams", a sort of cool funky synth cut you couldn't not play on a garage classics mix. Also, my favourite of all time is here: TJR Featuring the brilliant vocals of Xavier, and "Just Gets Better", and it's funky stabs and beats.... amazing.
CD2 is Todd Edwards mix, which is more jumbled vocals, 4 to the floor pounding beats and funky pads. He's thrown a lot of his own work in the mix, which is very cool, like his take on St Germain's "Alabama Blues", with it's country feel with chopped up and thrown in one sample feel. Other great Todd Edwards moments include "Shut That Door", "Perfect Love", "Restless Soul" and "The Dream", all with his personalised style of remixing and making his own beats.

I have been waiting for this cd for such a long time! I have many of the previous Pure Garage compilations but this one is definitely my favourite. In fact, I have always wondered when EZ was going to release a 4x4 album. I knew it was just a matter of time. It's funny that he should release an album like this cos I was in a club once a few months back when EZ was playing and my mate n I slipped him a note asking when he is going to release a Pure Garage 4x4 album(!). Seems like it done the trick :P. In my opinion 4x4 beats are the best sound around in the garage arena and it definitely brings back some old Sunday morning pirate station memories :)
EZ displays his second to none skills on CD 1 and includes a lot of old tunes, new tunes and also vocal tracks (which I especially like!).
The beats will get your head boppin' and with the likes of Todd 'The God' Edwards mixing on CD 2 there is probably no better combination. The majority of tracks on CD 2 are by Todd Edwards, so it also has his unique style and sampling talents present. CD 2 has a selection of remixes and stuff by Todd you just cannot get in the shops.
Basically, you have one of the best UK Garage DJs (EZ) mixing his favourite type of garage (so you know he's gonna do it right) and you also have one of the best garage producers/DJs (Todd Edwards) doing his thing. To me, an unbeatable combination that deserves 10 stars just for making it all happen. So do yourself a favour, kick rubbish 'grimey beats' to the curb and GET THIS NOW!

Quality, quality, Quality.
i had gone of garage for a few years, due to the rubbsh being out out. but wen i heard the advert and heard my best garage track: tjr feat xavier: just gets better with time, i had to purchuse it. It has some REAL old skool tunes, that make you tingle when they come on. this will remind you of that sunday morning garage that u hear after partying on saturday; back in the day. but its definatly a must have cd. trust, it doesnt get better

At last, a commercially available 4x4 album hits the shelves! Don't let the name "garage" put you off, this is a far cry from the grimey beats that have put so many people off the genre. For those who don't know what to expect, this album is full of upbeat kinda housey music (think MJ Cole's Wonderin Why). For those who know what to expect you the album doesn't disappoint with a mix of old and new, superbly mixed by EZ and Edwards. The vocal chopping by edwards on cd 2 is simply sublime and even though almost every track on the cd is his own work it doesn't become tedious.
If you're looking for something new, this is definitely for you. Superb value! It's about time this genre got the recognition it deserves.

I loved this album. Some old songs and some new songs, all of which captured me with the fabulous remixes. Definately a must for the lover of garage tunes, but also a lover of the old-school classics. :D With lots of variety and generally great music, this has got to be an album that goes on the top of my pile.
