This is a very nicely played and recorded set but might be of more interest to students of theatre or music history than to the general listener. I definitely fall into the latter camp and, while I don't have anything at all negative to say about this CD, I get far more enjoyment from Purcell's anthems, operas, organ works and so on. I've listened to this several times but have, so far, failed to achieve the kind of deeply contented languor so unabashedly displayed by Nell Gwynn on the CD's cover. I fear I am missing something. I even tried listening after adopting the same pose and garb as Miss Gwynn but the other passengers complained to the driver who ripped out my earphones, turned the air blue, and threw me off the bus. Whither the aesthete?
