This is one of the few artists that never dissapoints me each time a new album is released. The guy has a great imagination, and tells an amazing story (in first person) of how thwe main character is turned into a puppet to be used in shows in theaters accross the world. The melodies, the drums and the vocals are just as excellent as they were in previous albums. All in all this album does have different feel, like all the others do, but in a good way. If you are aking diamond fan then get this, you won't be dissapointed.

This is my favourite King Diamond album, closely followed by 'The Eye'.
I love the mood he creates through this concept album - never been to Budapest but I'm sure it doesn't match up to this crazy place King has created.
The Ritual is one of the greatest songs of all time, and I'd love to see the whole thing turned into a Metal-Musical-Horror Film. It would rule.

Just like all of his albums, King D delivers a great story/musical experience. He still is the father of Black Metal.
10th Anniversary - Same Material 1 April 2015

I was a first day buyer when this album was originally released, and as a huge KD/MF fan I was excited to see it was being rereleased for the 10th anniversary on double LP. The sound quality is great, I'm very pleased with the audio on this record. Unfortunately, I never picked this up as part of the Massacre Andy LaRoque Re-Masters or the original LP so I don't have a basis to compare it on vinyl. I think Metalblade has been doing phenomenal job on the KD/MF catalog as of late, and their reissues are putting the RoadRunner and Cargo versions to shame. While this is still a great quality release, I was still hoping for a little more for a special 10th anniversary edition. This has many of the same pitfalls as the Abigail II 10th anniversary version. For instance, I would have loved to have additional bonus content on side D as opposed to the etching. After this album was released the King embarked on an extensive North American tour & recorded the live album, Deadly Lullabyes. Maybe there are some unused live tracks from the Puppet Master album, a few demo cuts from the original sessions? The original CD version had a neat DVD with the King at a table orally describing the story from the album track by track. It's a simple idea, but man what a great bonus disc it was, to see the king in full garb in that setting behind the table, telling the tale. It made that version more special. I would have really been happy with anything additional here. Also, there is an alternate cover for the Puppet Master which would have been nice to have been included either in the gatefold layout or a slipcase LP design, etc.

I really struggled writing this review and kept asking myself, "Am I nit-picking here?" But in all honestly, I don't feel that I am. If we are going to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of such a spectacular monument in the King's catalog, let's do it with all guns blazing. It's a great effort, and if you are a vinyl junkie, this is certainly still a must have piece, but just don't expect any bells or whistles beyond a simple etch and a poster. Long live the King.
