Review

I've always been a horror movie fan, but I've avoided this series for years. Mainly because there are that many films, and not a lot of them are widely available in this country. But just recently I had the pleasure of seeing the first two films, and I enjoyed them that much that I've ordered the 8-Disc boxset of the series from Canada, via Amazon. These films aren't scary, and don't have too much gore, but they're just good fun! Most of the Puppets are likeable and although the effects aren't great (it's hard to suspend disbelief on occasion)you just can't wait to catch another glimpse of them in action. A brief description of the films would be that the puppets are controlled by their master and have to kill for him, but they aren't adverse to turning on him if his plans affect their wellbeing! In this second film, there is a new puppet added to the gang, Torch. I'd say he was the best of the lot to. He comes complete with a flame thrower attached to his arm! These films are all strictly B-movie, but there is a magic about them (obviously, or there wouldn't be eight films!). This is a good fun film, nad highly recommended. Seek it out! --Mark Wayman

If anybody thinks this film is basically the same as the pitiful 1989 instalment think again .Puppet Master 2 is a huge improvement on the pile of junk that the original was , as this time we get to see more of the superb puppets and learn more about Andre Toulon , their evil creator. The story basically revolves around the foot high little terrors exhuming Toulon and taking him to Bodega Bay hotel in California , where a group of ill fated paranormal investigators are examining the huge place for signs of ghostly activity.Needless to say , before long the humans are being wasted in the most grotesque ways imaginable by the puppets , while Toulon plans to bring himself out of his hideous body into that of a replacement using his twisted experiments which involve brain matter. The problem is he wants his ex wife Elsa back too , but needs a willing female to kill in order to do it. Only the two surviving investigators can stop his perverted dreams before they become reality. Puppet Master 2 is a little twisted and does not hold back on the gore , but nonetheless possesses a gripping story that keeps the viwer guessing until the very end , and this time the actors involved at least have the ability to act , unlike in Puppet Master , which at points threatened to slip into utter farce. The effect are better this time around as well , and a new puppet , torch , joins the fray and sets about burning human bodies to a cinder with utter relish.I would say that he is without doubt the scariest and most well done of all the puppets. All in all , Puppet Master 2 redeems the Puppet master series hugely and will be lapped up by all horror fans.Without a doubt a cult classic --paulsheehan26

I notice some reviewers preferred this second instalment to the original, but I think the first still had more "interesting bits". Puppet Master two, although a good stand alone film, isn't quite as gory as PM1. The emphasis is on "Torch" the new doll, a flamethrower. I prefer to see the one with the drill on his head in action, or the one that wields knives. Flames don't do a lot for me! Picture quality good, although there is some hiss on the soundtrack...this maybe because it's a cheaper independent film, or maybe the sound of the sea!? --Gerald Reek GOLDEN OLDIE
