5.0 out of 5 stars A glorious soundtrack, 5 Sep 2009

This is a great time to revisit the first album from the re-born Angel Brothers. Back in 2003, the guys set out their stall with this record in terms of their musical direction. This ethos has been echoed in subsequent releases including their long awaited 2009 record.

The Angel Brothers are all about rich musical soundtracks, they make film score music without the accompanying movie. And that friends is a great thing, these cerebral melodies unfold in your mind transporting you to your own adventure. For me `Pampas Border' is some dusty western town just as the light is fading. Satnam Singh use of the dholak (an Indian hand drum) is immense, atmospheric without being overly intrusive.

The quality of the musicians both in the band and guesting is hugely impressive and Keith Angel uses them well, ensuring that their skills are brought to the foreground in an excellent production job.

A fabulous record that ought to be in the collection of any music fan with a passion for folk, world, electronica or ambient music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure, 12 July 2010
This review is from: From Punjab to Pit Top (Audio CD)
I have to agree with the sentiments of the first two reviewers. I too bought this by chance as the title and musicians' names suggested an interesting fusion. These are really very good musicians on acoustic and electric instruments - tablas, accordions, guitars, drums and more - with hints of house beats and general electronica. The lack of vocals provides a seamless melange of very melodic and captivating eastern and western folk-influenced sounds. A treasure.
