4.0 out of 5 stars Slaughterhouse!, 31 Jul 2005
By A Customer
Moving the Punisher series to MAX was a masterstroke. Finally, we get to read about Frank's adventures the way they were meant to be read. Dark, gritty, and sometimes disturbing, this is an excellent example of how a comic book should read.
Also worth noting, is the strange relationship between Frank, and the small child he is sent to rescue. As with "Born", "Mother Russia" again offers a very teasing insight to this bleak, psychotic rage that drives Frank. Hopefully, as the series goes on, this darkness inside him will be explored further, to a satisfying conclusion.
All in all, a very worthwhile read if you're a fan of The Punisher. Only four stars however, because Frank spends large parts of the book in Military issue kit, and not enough time in the usual Punisher gear. Still. A minor quibble. You've read this far? Go order it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than any action movie., 21 May 2008
By Jaffacase (Newcastle, England) - See all my reviews
Garth Ennis presents the Punisher as he is meant to be. This comic, and this volume (Vol.3 Mother Russia) in particular, is very cinematic. It's like watching an action movie, but only better. It contains a wit, heart, and some sensibilities that hollywood action movies rarely posses. And it goes further with the action and violence than any movie could. When you read the interpretations of the Punisher and Nick Fury in this series, they are so hard boiled it's difficult to imagine they exist in the Marvel Universe.

Garth Ennis' knack for putting the Punisher in near impossible situations, then having him pull through in a sometimes more impossible manner, makes for a thrilling read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garth Ennis should write the Punisher for evermore, 21 Mar 2008

(REAL NAME)
This is Die Hard with Russian nuclear weapons. The action is more intense than any comic book I've read. The story is ludicrous but very gripping. The characters are much deeper than you would expect. And Nick Fury is very cool and very funny.

My only quibble is that the covers make The Punisher look a little douchey. They could rock a little harder. Other than that, this thing is awesome. And from here the series just gets better and better.
