Product Description

Review

Imagine a testosterone-fuelled Eat Pray Love with as much comedy as drama, and as much profundity as adventure. You've got it in Steve Rudd's Pulse - 2011's most exhilarating journey of discovery. --Time Out Magazine

If Jack Kerouac could read Steve Rudd's writing, he would surely be grinning in his grave. --Travellers' Digest

Product Description

Renowned travel writer Steve Rudd heads East for this collection of his trademark punchy, pithy reports, previously seen in such publications as Time Out and The Guardian, but available in collected, chronologically-ordered form for the first time in Pulse.

Written in transit between October 2010 and February 2011, Pulse finds Rudd on his fifth world-spanning, shoestring adventure, with a 'crisis of the midlife variety' driving him through India, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia in a relentless quest for 'truth and beauty'.

At turns philosophical, poetic, action-packed and hair-raising, this is a truly unique look at Asia - an entertaining and eye-opening experience guaranteed to broaden the mind.

Having not read much travel writing I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I have to admit I was more than pleasantly surprised. Steve tells the story of his epic journey with immaculate detail!! Keeping you on the edge of your seat all the time wondering whether he will make it to his next destination, Steve describes his experiences of travelling on a low budget with a light heart and an open mind!! In some parts it's amazing how he manages to stay so positive. His master of vocabulary and clever use of alliteration takes the book to a high literary level. A first class read!!!

I have read quite a few travel logs and travel books with my own recent travels. I was craving a travel book with a difference. I wanted a travel book where I would experience the hardships on the road not just physically but mentally. I wanted lots variety and adventure. I found it with this book. I felt like as I reading through the pages with Steve I was traveling along side. I felt all the emotions, the highs and the lows. Also all the worries that we experience on the road. The book is open and honest as Steve shares with you every emotion and experience on the road with him. Pick this book if you want a travel book with a difference that you will not be able to put down once you start reading.
