I have waited so long for this album, knowing how bumpy the road has been for Toni over the last few albums, despite everything she sings being perfection. This album is no less perfect than the others, and returns to a slightly more mainstream style, which is no less dynamic or relevant. Toni is in perfect voice, and the songs are so well written and arranged that she shows how versatile she is as a singer. While promotion never seems to be the any of her record labels strong points, this album is brilliant. "Yesterday" is such a strong ballad, and equally as impacting are "Hands tied" and "Pulse" - all full of skill and conviction. "Make my heart" is a great uptempo track, demonstrating Toni can still produce contemporary and relevant tracks in this arena. I personally feel there are no weak tracks, and while some of the leaked tracks could still have been put on the album, it doesnt take away from what is there. I hope the public get behind Toni and realise the quality of her music, which would bring her back into the consciousness of the music public. Love it.

After a lengthy hiatus, (last album was 2005's Libra) a new record label, a divorce, health scares and numerous leaks pushing the album back, 'Pulse' is finally here.

Lead single, 'Yesterday' is a perfect start to the album, showcasing Toni's gorgeous vocals. Sultry ballad 'Hands Tied' makes best use of Toni's rich, lower register and is reminiscent of her her 2000's album, 'The Heat'. A remake of Delta Goodrem's 'Woman' and the title track are also gorgeous ballads which will appeal to Ms. Braxton's loyal fanbase.

I am also impressed with the fact that 'Pulse' manages to stay current and Toni is able to mix her classic ballads with more contempory songs and compete with the likes of Beyoncé (even if her promotion doesn't). 'Make My Heart' contains an instantly recognisable Evelyn "Champagne" King sample and Single Ladies-esque 'Lookin' At Me' should hopefully appeal to a wider audience.

Despite not including all of the most popular leaked songs, including my personal favourite, "I Hate Love" and sounding more like a collection of polished R&B tracks than a complete album, it is a fantastic collection and comeback for Toni. Highly recommended.

The BBC Review (on Amazon.co.uk) is unfair to this album. I bought the album despite the review because I had heard 'Yesterday' on the radio and was captivated by it. The song doesn't disappoint, and neither does the rest of the album.

A splendid collection of sultry ballads in Toni's inimicable style, lightly sprinkled with some old fashioned dance tracks. I cried when I first heard 'Woman' because it reminded my painfully of how my last relationship had gone wrong. 'If I Have to Wait' was another personal reminder. No one does songs like 'Hero' and 'Pulse' the way Toni Braxton does. And I think 'Why Won't You Love Me' is a great song for the ladies.

I don't like every song - one or two of the dance tracks are a little weak. But I'm finding myself setting the entire album to shuffle mode on my ipod and playing it all day long. These songs are great easy-listening for me in any order. This is an album that deserves great success, if the recording company would just market it a little more.

Thanks, Toni, for doing it again!

As most Toni Braxton fans, I have been waiting for 5 years to finally hear her highly anticipated new album "Pulse". Having followed the controversy surrounding some of her new material being leaked on the internet, I am a little disappointed not to find "Melt Like An Iceberg" and the version of "Yesterday" with Trey Songz on here as both tunes are really amazing and suit Toni Braxtons' voice perfectly. Nevertheless, this collection of new songs is just as good as any other Toni Braxton release.

The album opens with the lead single "Yesterday", a superb soulful ballad that enhances Toni's beautiful deep vocals. The catchy "Make My Heart" follows and is a much more upbeat song with strong Dance influences. "Hands Tied" is another mesmerising ballad with a very sensual quality to it and is swiftly followed by a very inspiring ballad "Woman". "If I Have To Wait" is a heartfelt Country inspired ballad which suits Toni's vocals like a glove. Although this release remains very soulful, there is a slightly more commercial feel to the album which is noticeable on the two following tracks "Lookin' At Me" and "Wardrobe", the latter being a very infectious song with a simple yet addictive melody. "Hero" also has a commercial feel to it even though it is a well constructed ballad. The three final tracks "No Way", "Pulse" and "Why Won't You Love Me" are very mellow and soulful mid-tempo tracks and end the album on a positive note.

"Pulse" does not have one dull moment and is a very consistent release which can be said for all of Miss Braxton's albums.
