Product Description

Synopsis

The gods and demons come together to churn the ocean using the mountain of Manthara and the serpent Vasuki to get the elixir of immortality. Uruvashi, the most beautiful woman in all the worlds, created by the god Narayana from his thigh, descends to earth only to fall in love with a mere mortal. Savitri tricks Death into doing something he has never done before. Emperor Akbar challenges Birbal to find the ten biggest fools of Agra. These and many other tales of boons and curses, love and betrayal, wit and humour, valour and pride, drawn from the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Panchatantra and traditional folklore of India are brought together in this fascinating collection.

Great stories 6 Nov 2005
Format:Hardcover
I got this book because my husband was in India and I thought my children might like to know more about the country.
The stories in this book are very easy to read and extremely enjoyable.
I would recommend this book to anyone, even without a connection to the culture or the country.
