A teen girl named Kazumi is roused one evening to find that she was kidnapped while she slept! Bursting from the trunk that held her, Kazumi discovers that not only has she been stripped of her clothes, but also of the memories of her life before the kidnapping. When she is rescued by a pair of schoolgirls, she doesn't recognize them as her best friends and roomates, Umika and Kaoru. As Kazumi tries to settle back into her normal life, she quickly relizes that her former 'normal' was anything but!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kazumi Magica 14 Dec 2013
By Pinkamena Diane Pie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
So this is a spin-off series of the well known series Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Besides some very minor cameos PMMM is not central to this manga's plot. That said to me the real big things I look for in manga are story and art so imma split the review as such:

Story 7/10 - It's not bad. It's light hearted at first but hints at much darker things to come here and there. This first volume introduces us to the amnesiac main character and her allies. They beat on witch-like beings and that's pretty much it. Looking forward to seeing where it's going though.

Art 9/10 - Very good designs. The characters are all cute and the enemies are cool in a evil way. The art style is very different from madoka, but that's fine with me because I personally really like this style a lot. The only thing is the action scenes are sometimes hard to follow and might take a second look to grasp what happened.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good, but I'm not really sure how it fits together yet. 3 May 2014
By Kyle Gagnon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you're interested in this you've probably already watched/read Madoka Magica and know that Madoka shook up the status quo. After having read this book (and only this book so far) I am not sure if it fits into a pre Madoka or post Madoka world.

Imagine if a spin off of Monsters Inc focused on a group of people in clown school, talking about how they are going to collect the screams of children. Are they learning to be clowns because clowns are terrifying? Or did the writer just forget that they aren't collecting 'screams' anymore and the error slipped past?

But continuity errors aside, it's much more light hearted than Madoka. The story is still getting everyone introduced and setting the stage, so there's nothing much to make it stand out yet. The writing is solid, but so far not exceptional. It has a some creepy sexualisation, fairly minor risque moments that are made creepy by their apparent age. And a few points of legitimate humor.

I am tempted to give it 3 stars; on it's own it's a fairly standard time waster that is nether bad nor does enough to set it apart from anything else you might want to read... but it's not meant to be taken on it's own. It's part one of ... 6 so far? Judging it on it's own is like judging the first chapter of a book on it's own. Or maybe more like judging The Fellowship Of The Rings on it's own. As a part of a whole it does a good job of setting up adventures yet to come, but fails to be as attention grabbing as it might hope. I give it 4 stars and am curious where it's going.
