Back in the mid-1990's I bought a DTP Program called Timeworks. It was just the job for what I wanted. As I moved into owning Windows PC's, I upgraded to Timeworks and then to it's new name of Pressworks. So you can imagine, I have a lot of .dtp files associated with this software. Plus, more importantly, I know how to use the software.
But when I purchased my new Mesh Desktop and Laptop Computers with Windows 7, my existing software would not run. This meant I had to do my DTP work on an old Windows XP Laptop. Not good!
So, I took a chance and bought this latest version, now called Publisher 4.6. It installed on my Desktop Computer and ran without any compatibility pop up's. I opened an existing Business Card .dtp file and updated the details, then printed it out. No problem! Unsurprisingly, this software is blindingly fast compared to the old XP versions. To not have to use my old XP Laptop is an answered prayer.
It has always amazed me that this software gets such poor reviews. Well, I like it, so there!

This has been a very useful tool for producing good looking reports. It has been easy to use. Why pay ridiculous prices for Microsoft Publisher when this is available?

Why pay more £80 upwards for more well known products - word,page plus,publisher,quark,Indesign ...etc
If you need to convert files to pdf format, just download one of the many free pdf creation programs, from a reputable wesite.Then use the print option and select the pdf creator printer (Exanple - PrimoPDF); following the next instructions.
To the program as a whole, you can create many things like greeting cards to newsletters. Some options are only found in packages costing many hundreds of pounds. These include frame manipulation and changing the language of the whole document. Although there is no 'context help' wizards to help you, it very easy to learn. The most important thing (unlike other publishing packages costing more); you most certainly get what you create. Of particular note the border lines or single lines, do produce the thinnest printed lines any where (1 AIU - measurment unit selected)
You can create longer documents (no Chapter or Index wizards provided though - mind you, even the most expensive packages don't get it right first time). the size of document depends (like everything else) on how much physical and 'page memory' your computer can handle. ( I have 8mb of 1300mhz memory and can handle publiser file sizes up to 300mb). If money is tight, you would have to pay 9-10 times more for the next available payware desktop package - to do (possibly) more.
I have been using these packages since First Press/Timeworks and it is a shame that the publisher; Greenstreetonline is no longer trading, but snap up a real bargain while you can.
