I am new to DTP. Although I am vaguely familiar with the "cut and paste" stuff I have never used DTP software on a PC.
I needed to create a newsletter for a local society and decided that PagePlus7 was obviously a good buy.
Firstly, the tutorial is brilliant. Not only do you learn all about the terminology and techniques, but the result is a DTP reference manual which you have created yourself.
Having embarked on the project I found the software package easy to use and the results were stunning. It also proved to be reliable and bug-free. I wish you all "good kerning!"

Having experimented with several DeskTop Publishing packages Serif gets my vote for its simplicity of use perfectly married with sophisticated features. It betters its rivals with some 1400 ready made templates covering a wide range of areas. The extensive and instant on-line help should enable any novice to quickly master the program and produce quite stunning designs with little fuss. The Web Page design I particularly like and enabled this novice in web page design to turn out a really professional looking job without tears. The program handles all the html code, the user doesn't need any knowledge of this, thank goodness, using a template from a nice range supplied to good effect. These ready made web pages can be customised to result in an attractive site even by an amateur. This having been said the program is able to handle very advanced design - it's really down to the creativity of the user. The program is only bettered by Page Plus 8 from Serif to which I have now upgraded. Within the price range Page Plus is definitely the best Desk Top Publisher available offering more scope for design and makes its competitors look a little stilted by comparison.

The supplied "companion" book takes the new user through the whole range of essentials by way of a hands on tutorial in creating a publication using just about every feature in the program.

Buy with confidence. I've used it lots and it has always served me well.
