Product Description

BBC Review

Let's be honest - you're either going to love this, or hate it more than anything you've ever heard before. Sadly, I fell into the latter category.

Verging on bubblegum pop, first track "A Public Affair" sounds like something that you might put on at a kids' party if you were having a disco-dancing competition. Complete with Jessica's laugh in the background of one of the quieter moments and a whispered, 'Hey baby' here and there, you just find yourself wishing the party would stop...

"B.O.Y." is much better - it almost reaches early-Britney heights and is something that you might put on before going out to somewhere very cheesy. "Swing With Me" is OK too - it's a fast-paced, rhumba-rhythmed track that would probably get you on the dancefloor if you'd had a few. "Fired Up" is a little bit more edgy. But its token urban sound just doesn't seem to fit at all.

Unfortunately, that's about as good as it gets. There are far too many tinkles from naff chimes and far too many husky-voiced proclamations like, 'I'm spreading my wings and beginning again,' and, 'The lover in me sees the lover in you,' to make this record remotely palatable.

Ballad "Back To You" is a chance to really listen to Jessica's voice - which, unfortunately, just doesn't cut it. It's not bad, but it's not that good either and you get the feeling that she might not even make it through the initial rounds of American Idol - she'd be one of those contestants who'd be told, 'It's OK, but it's forgettable.'

As for the final track, "Let Him Fly" - it seems pretty obvious that JS is whining about letting ex-husband Nick Lachey go for good. It's just too much. A Public Affair seems like a recorded version of the emotional rollercoaster that Jessica must have been on since her divorce, and really, it's something we shouldn't have to share with her. --Lizzie Ennever

4.0 out of 5 stars Completely surprised 12 Oct 2006
Format:Audio CD
I love the eighties sound, I believe some of the catchiest music came from the eighties and I love the way Jessica Simpson has made such an easy album to listen to.

It's not screechy, no vocal gymnastics, just an album you can listen to whilst doing the housework and dance about to.

Genius!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album! 5 Jan 2013

I really don't understand why this wasn't a hit. it has great pop songs, Jessica sounds amazing. Maybe it was because it was a really hard time for her going through the divorce and stuff. But really worth buying, Jessica never lets her fans down. beautiful voice, fun and romantic tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!!!!!! 11 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
Jessica has returned with her greatest work yet, awesome mixes, of pop, dance, country, swing, techno, ballads, R&B, and even Hip hop.
A public affair: A funky fresh dance pop track with a catchy disco beat!
You spin me round: A cover of the classic Dead or Alive hit, with an excellant re-write of the verses.
B.O.Y.: A bit of a heavy pop rock song, but awesome and easy to dance to none-the-less.
If you were mine: A great 80's influenced disco song.
Walkin' 'round in circles: A slow pop song, not slow or moving enough to be a ballad but it's got a nice rhythm to it.
The lover in me: A bit of a flashback to Jessica's contemporary days, not the best track but still good.
Swing with me: The genre can be seen in the title, a mix of jazz and swing, if your not a fan of retro music, your tune will be changed after a listen of this.
Push your tush: The first country track on the album, i'm not much of a country fan, but this 1 is different. A bit of a grower keep in mind.
Back to you: Another slow track, which sadly doesn't complement Jessica's voice very well, it sounds like she's trying not to cry.
Between you & I: A minor mix of pop/R&B and reggae, Jessica's voice has a more soothing quality here! Very nice song.
I don't want to care: A nice slow song, which could wind you down after a hard day of work!
Fired Up: Jessica's very first attempt at Hip hop or what some may look at it as heavy R&B, Jessica shows off her sexy vocals in this awesome song, which will fire you up!
Let him fly: One of the only proper ballad on the album, an acoustic ballad which you can easily relax to.
I belong to me: A beautiful R&B ballad, which will have you crying from first hearing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive pop album. 20 Mar 2007
Format:Audio CD
So what do you do with an artist that has come full-circle? Jessica Simpson began her career as a second-rate, but vocally impressive clone of Britney Spears. With her first image and album failing to set the charts alight she was put in the `producers' machine and spat out with something even worse- a catchy lead single `Irresistible', but a dire album that sounded like a piece of careless, mass-produced rubbish. Things were not working out for Jessica until she landed a role [the marriage was so short it might as well be called a role] in the MTV produced, `Newlyweds'. During the documentation of her first year of her married life Jessica felt `inspired' and produced an album slightly more personal, lyrically pleasing but nevertheless not up to much. `With You' being her biggest hit from the album, thus securing her biggest album sales. I shall ignore the pointless Christmas album that so many artists bother with, Mariah just about pulled it off, and that's saying something!

`A Public Fair', is possibly the most blatant reference to any artist's private affairs, not something I was that bothered about. Owning all the previous albums listed I felt required to buy this album. I must admit I didn't hold much hope considering what I felt about her previous albums, all which contained very good singles but not much get-up and go. The first single, `A Public Affair' didn't at first grab me like previous first singles from Simpson's albums, but it eventually grew on me, the glossy video did everything to please one gay-guy's heart.

Then something grabbed me. Track two. `You Spin Me Round' a cover of the `Dead or Alive' classic 80's disco stomper. Don't roll your eyes; Jessica has made this her own piece of pop perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic album. 30 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
I'm happy that I did not buy the original version released as I think "I Belong To Me" is a fantastic song and one of the reasons why people should buy this album. If you are a fan of Jessica Simpson, buy this now, don't wait for a UK release as it will probably take longer to be released as the single "A Public Affair" is said not to be released until early 2007!

The best tracks here are:

A Public Affair [the first single, a very fun party track]

You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) [more of a re-make of the Dead or Alive track, as most of the lyrics have been changed apart from the chorus, Jessica makes this track more hot and sexy, it makes you really love this track]

B.O.Y.

The Lover In Me

Fired Up [this is said to be Jessica's Dirrty, very hot track]

Let Him Fly [a very sweet song, makes your eyes water]

I Belong To Me [the second single with very meaningful lyrics]

In This Skin was great but I think this album is more meaningful and with this album she is more in touch with her talent. I already got this for my christmas and I love this album *5 stars*
