In Criss Cross, Vic figures life is pretty good. He's got his lover, Jacob. He's got some time off to go fishing, and his new partner in the Paranormal Investigation Team buys the coffee. Naturally, nothing that good can last. When Vic starts to see ghosts everywhere, things go very wrong, resulting in a trip to his doctor, who says he's got problems. Vic's friends tell Jacob he has to leave for Vic to get better, sex is starting to get dangerous, and Vic's abilities are getting out of hand. Can he and Jacob figure out what's happening in time to save Vic from becoming a pawn in a dangerous game?

Victor is a medium. He sees dead people, which is exactly as much fun as it sounds like. But for a cop, it's a useful skill, which is why the Paranormal Investigation team was founded.
This volume contains the first two (of five, to date) of the Psycop novels.
In Among the Living, Victor's new case pairs him with Jacob, a non-psychic who works in sex crimes. Victor and Jacob have a history, and as they work together to solve a set of serial crimes, they begin to explore the possibilities of a future. Soon Victor finds that he's the only one who can solve the crime, and save Jacob's life. If he's not too late.
In Criss Cross, Victor's abilities spiral out of control, and he starts hurting Jacob unintentionally. Can he and Jacob figure out what's happening in time to save Victor from becoming a pawn in a dangerous game?
I loved these stories: they are not just angsty romance tales, but have a tense crime story and well-realised characters. Victor is frankly, a bit of a mess: the only way he can stop the dead taking over his life is to take (too many) anti-psyactive drugs, but you can't help loving him and wanting things to work out between him and the wonderfully grounded and protective Jacob.
Oh, and the sex is hot! ;)

I love love love Vic and Jacob, so much so that they're prob my fave literary couple ever. Someone recommended this book and I thought why not as it's cheap (bought it when it was just an ebook). Although the first story is short, each subsequent story grows in length and I found myself craving more. I wanted to find out more about Vic and Jacob, and not because of the hot, steamy sex, though that's a bonus. It was just great reading about what they go through relationship wise and case-wise. Plus great sense of humour throughout! I like how JCP has researched psychic powers and made it so that Vic isn't some cocky guy. Of course, there's plenty of character development, and that makes you love Vic even more! Jacob's a hottie too. Never stop writing about these guys, JCP!
