First Sentence
Political biography as a field of political science has long been relied upon to furnish a vivid corrective to the overemphasis laid upon the study of institutional "mechanisms," "structures," and "systems." Read the first page

Man of the Century 4 May 2009
By Dr. William Thompson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My doctoral dissertation was based on the communication paradigms of Harold Lasswell. He was my mentor and friend. His evocative use of clinical psychology to analyze how public figures interact with their public and expose both their weaknesses and strengths, is held as THE classic exposition of power, corruption and rectitude, another volume he penned with Arnold Rogow. We shall not soon see another whose insight so clearly opened the door to the furtherance of the policy sciences. Any public servant, at whatever level of governance would do well to read this volume. Disregarding his words of wisdom are at his/her peril. He warns us that today we stand at a crossroads, "It is obvious that we can live and kill and die, or live and nurture and create." Much depends on our "-- changing value predispositions and gratifications." No more pressing than at this very hour is our responsibility to put these two into proper perspective. The leader who heeds this trumpet call to action will be honored, the leader who merely placates the masses is destined to fail.
