If you like the work of Karel Appel and the extreme expressionistic figurative style of the early 1950's this book is for you.
Beautifully reproduced, it is essentially Karel Appel's re-working on top of an old booklet / pamphlet about art done by patients with psychological problems.
The illustrations done by these patients has been emitted leaving just the short texts. The wild, colourful crayon and ink drawings by Karel Appel that replace these missing reproduced works are almost childlike, but in a fabulous "Outsider Art" way.
I found it to be a brilliant edition to my art library. The copy that I bought was with German text, but this really doesn't matter as the vast majority of the book is comprises of the wonderful crazy free and spontaneous art of Karel Appel. Beautiful.
