5.0 out of 5 stars This is a brilliant book! 3 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliant book. It's the complete guide to doing well at A level psychology. We started off using another book at school but I discovered this one and much prefer it. It doesn't patronise like some of the other books I've seen, or try to fill up space with flashy photos. I really feel that I will do well with this book. There is lots of really useful essay writing and examination guidance and the whole book is very clearly written. Buy it or regret it!

I am a first-year A-Level Psychology student. My college is following the AEB syllabus, and seeing as Mike Cardwell is the Chief Examiner, my teacher recommended this book as a useful study aid. All the chapters I have read are extremely well-written and clearly explain even the most complex aspects of Psychology. The material we cover in class can easily be supported by information from the text, and there are adequate examples and case studies. Section summaries and chapter summaries are provided, encompassing the main points - very useful for revision. Essay questions also help in this area, and references are given for further reading. However, some of the paragraphs tend to be a tiny bit waffly - not as concise as they could be. Plus, the book is too heavy and bulky. I think it would prove invaluable in attaining a top grade though.

1.0 out of 5 stars An Inadequate Main Text for AEB A level 23 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This text is a mixture of very well written chapters, with others that are seriously inadequate. This makes it a teacher's nightmare to use as a main text - In several areas of the syllabus considerable extra resources would have to be used to ensure complete coverage. The advertising for this book gives the impression that it is all you need to pass the exam, but "this texbook was never endorsed by the AEB" and far better main texts are now available.

This was an absolutley fantastic book which I refered to many times during my A level psychology. Clearly written and easy to understand while at the same time containing relevent and up to date information. If you only buy one book this year, buy Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy. If you choose to buy two however and wish to have, the in my opinion, definitive A level text then buy 'Psychology for A-Level by Cardwell Clark & Meldrum, et al'.

4.0 out of 5 stars What would Freud think of that? 6 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As an A-level student I have found this book an essential part of my course. The authors have made it clear and precise what is expected of you in an exam and also in your practical work. Although not a book that will have your eyes mystified, it will give you clear and precise knowledge without whaffling on too much. For a more in depth account of psychological research though it may not be your first choice. 3 and a half may have been fairer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for revising students 5 April 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I am currently studying Psychology at A-level and this book is very useful for revising. This is because the book is set out very clearly and is very easy to follow. The book's one flaw is the fact that it is so bulky. The book would be a very useful buy as it is good reference for revision and coursework.
