Review

Praise for the second edition:

‘An excellent core text … it covers the specification brilliantly and I like the question and sample answers’ section.’ Sarah Sawyer, Head of Psychology, St Augustine’s Catholic College

‘… I came out with a high A grade which I honestly didn't expect, and which is the result of studying your excellent book … [It] was clear, explained everything in a way in which I could understand, and somehow many facts and quotes just stuck in my head… the book was just a pleasure to study from … ‘ Judy, a student from Liverpool

This is a brilliant book. It's the complete guide to doing well at A level psychology. We started off using another book at school but I discovered this one and much prefer it. It doesn't patronise like some of the other books I've seen, or try to fill up space with flashy photos. I really feel that I will do well with this book. There is lots of really useful essay writing and examination guidance and the whole book is very clearly written. Buy it or regret it!

This was an absolutley fantastic book which I refered to many times during my A level psychology. Clearly written and easy to understand while at the same time containing relevent and up to date information. If you only buy one book this year, buy Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy. If you choose to buy two however and wish to have, the in my opinion, definitive A level text then buy 'Psychology for A-Level by Cardwell Clark & Meldrum, et al'.

I am a first-year A-Level Psychology student. My college is following the AEB syllabus, and seeing as Mike Cardwell is the Chief Examiner, my teacher recommended this book as a useful study aid. All the chapters I have read are extremely well-written and clearly explain even the most complex aspects of Psychology. The material we cover in class can easily be supported by information from the text, and there are adequate examples and case studies. Section summaries and chapter summaries are provided, encompassing the main points - very useful for revision. Essay questions also help in this area, and references are given for further reading. However, some of the paragraphs tend to be a tiny bit waffly - not as concise as they could be. Plus, the book is too heavy and bulky. I think it would prove invaluable in attaining a top grade though.
