Product Description

As air travel becomes more commonplace, an increasing number of people are exposed to stresses associated with it. Between 10 and 40 per cent of air travellers experience some kind of fear response. Fear of flying should not be lightly dismissed by health-care professionals as the effects can wreak havoc on people's personal and professional lives. Furthermore, their fear of flying may also be indicative of anxiety-related problems in other areas of their lives. This text aims to fill the gap in the literature for an authoritative textbook on the topic of fear of flying. The book includes chapters on the extent and nature of the problem; understanding public perceptions of safety associated with flying; assessment of clients; psychological treatment approaches; use of specific interventions (for example, virtual reality) and clinical case studies. The aim is to provide an up-to-date and authoritative handbook on the topic that covers theory, research and practice. The international panel of authors are all experienced researchers and clinicians, and are leaders in their respective fields.
