The Best Selling Number 1 Thrillers & Suspense Debut

On 1st June, 2010, an unspeakable act of murder was committed – a crime so evil that its perpetrator, Alex Merton, could never be forgotten. He left behind not just bloody fingerprints staining the city, but also debate, confusion, and question upon question as to why he did it.

How could a man in possession of such genius – a man so deeply in love – unleash such horror on the living? How could a man so seemingly invisible in the community become the face of a nation’s nightmares? And who was the mystery somebody who knew of his murderous blueprints way beforehand, yet decided to do nothing until it was too late?

This is the story of Alex Merton – the truth behind the mystery, the man, the monster...

About the Author

After growing too familiar with the pleasantries of the English countryside, Sidney Knight embraced city life in London. It was here that he began ALEX, his first novel which took three years to complete.

A lifelong admirer of literary and genre fiction, he enjoys creating a hybrid of both, writing plot-driven stories with an emphasis on psychologically complex characters.

Walking a different road to most, ALEX is a fusion of crime, mystery, psychological suspense and romance, told with a bold, unflinching style. Knight is happily married and currently working on his second novel which he hopes to publish very soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Twisted Page Turner 7 Mar. 2012
By Turkey
Format:Kindle Edition
This had me hooked. Unpredictable, fast pace, characters you didn't know whether to love or hate, and a fulfilling sense that true love still exists in this world. It's dark, but also has moments of wit, bringing a nice balance. I would be very surprised if the author hadn't researched into the criminal mind in some detail as what is written seems tremendously real and plausible. The climactic ending is also fantastic, ending far from how I had imagined. I don't like to use the word original, but it was certainly like nothing I've ever read previously. I can't remember shouting at a book before and trying to change what was going to happen on the next page!

The only thing I am unhappy about is that this author has no other titles for me to dive into yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent debut 7 Mar. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I had doubts about taking a chance on reading a new author's work, but I'm glad I took the chance. Knight writes his story with a boldness I warmly welcomed, revealing his characters and telling the story with compelling honesty, making for page turning reading. The story is somewhere between a romance, thriller, and psychological crime drama, which I thought broke away nicely from the run of the mill crime novels I usually read. In short, the story is about an outcast, Alex, who accidentally finds love between the rough waves of `normalness' and conformity, and finds his hidden genius as an artist. This engrossing titular character is firstly seen as detestable and evil in the early chapters, but once you get to know him, he seems to ironically be one of the more sane and humane people in the book.

All in all, I thought this was a refreshing read, startlingly, and sometimes disturbingly real, with the ability to surprise me when I thought I knew where it was going. Knight definitely isn't afraid to show his readers the thorns on roses. It's great to follow the story through the eyes of the would be killer for a change - as opposed to through the sane eyes of a detective as is the case with most run of the mill crime novels I usually pick up. That said, the author never tries to glamorise or sensationalise, instead telling the story with sensitivity. Strong themes of true identity and acceptance run throughout, adding a strong back bone to the story also.

Finally, I will add that the book is tightly written with not a wasted word, which is great if you like books that get to the point and grab you early on. However, if I am being highly critical, I am someone who likes to read big books, and so for me personally it could have been longer. Also, I would have liked the author to have held back a little with the details and recreational habits of certain characters. Be warned: the word `censorship' is not in the author's vocabulary!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex 2 July 2012
By Steve M
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are two phycological thrillers that I have recently read which stand out above all others,
the first was Max which is absolutely amazing Then I found Alex which is just as good if not better.
The story gripped me from the first page & didn't let me go until the last sentence, call me sad but
I just couldn't get the story out of my head & thought about it constantly, which is exactly how a
psycological thriller should be.
Well done Sidney Knight on this debut title, 'simply brilliant' please write another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning page turner. 27 Aug. 2012
By Ann
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say? I've read an awful lot of psychological thriller books in my time and this has to be the best yet. It grabbed me from the opening sentence and I wasn't able to put my kindle down from then on. Disturbing, moving, shocking and so painfully unjust. It had me shouting at and hating some of the characters, something I haven't done before! This man must have a knowledge of psychological difficulties. A stunningly written and rare insight into the mind of a tortured soul. It has left me reeling and wanting to read more, only there isn't any more to follow up yet. I will wait with baited breath Sidney Knight for a sequel and a hard back copy for my best reads bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully dynamic 26 Jun. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
ALEX had a bit of everything in it. Drama. Crime. Suspense. Even love. I found it wonderfully dynamic with detailed characters that breathed on the pages. A fast sometimes movie-like pace pulled me in immediately from the first chapter...something I myself loved as I can tend to have a short attention span if my fiction has too much filler in it. (And I hate filler!)

I loved the way that the author holds absolutely nothing back from you too. It's like he gives you a one way ticket into the minds of his characters. Some of them aren't so pretty, it's true (word of warning!)...but this is also what makes them so believable and captivating to read.

I'd recommend ALEX to anyone who fancies an escape from the usual suspects of crime fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outside the Box and Refreshingly Unpredictable 9 May 2012
By Lisa D
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm pleased I stumbled upon this drama/crime novel. I've great respect for Knight and the pathos he delivers. It was enjoyable and moving from start to finish, pretty much never going in the direction I thought it would. I highly recommended this to anyone who wants to escape into a world of deeply troubled characters who'll either haunt or mesmerise you after reading. It got me questioning who the real monsters are in this world. If you can think outside the box then this one's for you.
