Product Description

The Psychological Commentaries on the teaching of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky by Maurice Nicoll are the best, most in depth and easiest to understand books on the subject of Gurdjieff's and Ouspensky's teachings. Everyone interested in Gurdjieff's and Ouspensky's teachings should read all five volumes. Regardless of what spiritual path a person is on, the psychological commentaries can be a big help because they detail on a day-to-day basis the obstacles the false personality creates and how to conquer and remove those obstacles. Very few books have ever been written that go into great detail exposing the tricks the imaginary I uses to prevent people from succeeding in their spiritual goals. The psychological commentaries do just that. The Psychological Commentaries is the classic work on the fundamental ideas of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, expounded by one of their foremost students. The Commentaries, concerned with the immediate processes of applying certain principles in daily life, have come to be known and loved by entire generations of people interested in the ongoing evolution of psychological transformation. One of the leading British psychologists of his time, Maurice Nicoll was a student of Jung, Gurdjieff, and Ouspensky. At the latter's request, he devoted the last twenty years of his life to passing on the ideas he had received from his teachers. This devotion culminated in the five volumes of the Psychological Commentaries on the teaching of Gurdjieff & Ouspensky. The ISBN's are: Volume One 978-0-9829651-5-3. Volume Two 978-0-9829651-6-0. Volume Three 978-0-9829651-7-7. Volume Four 978-0-9829651-8-4. Volume Five 978-0-9829651-9-1. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The commentaries of Nicoll are vast; 5 volumes (the 6th. volume is an index) with thousands and thousands of pages... but if one takes the trouble one is immensely benefitted. By reading them, the condensed picture painted by Ouspensky in his "In Search Of The Miraculous" is gradually unraveled; it becomes clear how the many facets of the teaching of Gurdjieff are interlinked into one whole which is truly a sparkling diamond. The reader changes in the course of reading because his awareness is sharpened and his understanding of himself/herself grows. The Commentaries have changed my life irreversibly, and it still gets better and better.

These books are for people confused by, or struggling with life.If you know, somewhere deep with-in, that there is a much greater meaning to life than that which you behold on a daily basis, if you possess what the Author refers to as "magnetic center", than these volumes could be for you. It's safe to assume that, in todays world, the very idea of one questioning their relationship to life and the cosmos are largely non exsistant. This is why the world is in the condition that it is in.I couldn't possibly go into the psycology the books offer here. The information is serious. It is real. It's not for everybody. It wasn't intended to be.For me, when I hear more and more about children shooting children on play grounds, and life seems to slip further and further into what a sane person would call insanity, Maurice Nicole has provided a life line that i can hold on to tightly.

These books are based on the lectures the Dr Maurice Nicholls spanning the war (WW2) years and beyond.

They are very easy to read through and cover the length and immense depth of Fourth Way teachings.

Subjects covered in volume ii include:

The Enneagram
Self-Observation
Self-Remembering
Inner Freedom
Law of Fate and Law of Accident
Commentary on Observing "I"
On Beginning to Live More Consciously
A Note on Recurrence
A Note on Buffers
Commentary on Ccquired Conscience
Doctrine of 'I's
On Changing the Level of Our Being

Each chapter is a few pages in length making this series very easy to dip into, especially when one is pondering/working on a specific teaching.

Well worth purchasing for any Fourth Way study, or individual seeking to find a way out of the repetition of ones personality and life.
