i've looked through all the current texts which give an overview of mental health nursing and this one beats the others hands down. it's exceptionally readable (worthy without being wordy) and contains many useful features such as therapeutic against non-therapeutic nursing interventions, concise yet thorough information on the full range of mental health problems and, of course, many excellent care plan examples.
this book supercedes any other textbook about the basics of psychiatric nursing.

I am actually excited to receive this book. I believe that it will prove invaluable to me as a mental health nursing student. It explains how to write careplans and what actions to take for personality disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses! It also looks at anxiety, dementia and eating disorders. Buying this book will certainly help you if you work in psychiatry, psychology/nursing.

There is definately some very good information in this book. I guess I was hoping for a quick reference type of layout somewhere in the book. I have to go to the index and look up which illness I want to research plans of care for. I wish they had listed the medical diagnoses and then the possible nursing diagnoses. This has great information though that is pertinent to the care plan for the patient with psychiatric diagnoses. I keep it on my desk at work and refer to it often!

This book really helped me in preparing my care plans for class. Not only does it have care plan information, it also has guides for tests such as the Mini-Mental. It really helped me out.
