5.0 out of 5 stars Relive the 80's reliving the 60's 27 May 2009
Format:Audio CD
XTC do a Sgt Pepper and weave a fantastic album together drawing on varied pyschedelic influences. A dash of Hollies, a soupcon of Beatles, a sprinkling of Barrett era Pink Floyd topped with a drizzle of Byrds all combine to provide an aural feast. I discovered this band back in '87 which led me to on to my love affair with XTC, 'Vanishing Girl' being the standout track (in my opinion of course)

5.0 out of 5 stars I love The Dukes 5 May 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is a great slice of psych. I'm a collector of the vintage stuff, but really it doesn't get much better than this. This is for anyone who likes The Beatles circa 1967. Hear Collideascope and marvel! As one of my friends once said: if they can do this, why do they bother being XTC? :)
(Only kidding, though - Nonesuch, Apple Venus and Skylarking are all testament to the talent of Messrs Partridge, Moulding et al.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Pale and precious 24 April 2009
By Fletch-a-sketch TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Fresh from the success of the marvellous 25 O'clock EP from XTC's alter ego Dukes of Stratosphere, Originally released in 1987 XTC as the Dukes go on to produce a masterpiece album with the usual wit associated with XTC. Influences abound from the likes of the `Beatles' `Stones' and `beach boys'. Every song on the album could have been written and recorded 20 years before.
However this is not just a an ordinary deluxe release we get a mini hard cover book reproduction of the original sleeve copious notes from sir john and red curtains and the other band members, written in both a humorous and informative manner. We also get a number of bonus tracks, demos from the period
Finally you get a Quick time movie for `You're a good man Albert brown' playable on your computer.

Fans of 60's Psych music will love this pure pastiche and have fun spotting the influences before reading the album notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourate album ever! 1 May 2009
Format:Audio CD
this album is cracking! A masterpeace that still has yet to be topped in my humble opinion.
I remember buying it when it first came out and thinking 'Wow!"
It still does it to me-the Dukes are spot on and improved on their influences of the Byrds, Beach Boys, Small Faces, Stones et al!
You can see why the Stone Roses tried to copy them-shame they didn't do such a good job!
Can't wait to hear the next Dukes album-songs like RA RA Red Rocking Horse give a clue of how good it could be-hope the boys see sense and make up their differences.
