This weighty book, translated from the German, covers the last third of the Book of Psalms, one of the best-known parts of the Bible. So much has been written about the Psalms over the centuries that even a book of this size can only cover part of the material. However, it gives as much information as most people could ever want, and there are copious references for the minority who want to probe more deeply. Thus it should please everyone from enquiring laymen to professional theologians.

This book is a heavy read and I have dipped in to it (and then out again) as I study a particular Psalm. It is a full exegesis of the last fifty Psalms, summarising the 2005 position of academic research. Originally published in German, the English translation flows well. As a layman, at times I needed to check elsewhere to understand the point being made.

I await the third book in the series.

My husbnad and I are both clergy with an interest in lament literature.
This commentary is very good about the psalms in the last section of the lectionary.
Various generes are recognized and expressed in the study.

This book offer great exegetical background for both academics and homilists. It is well worth the price but wish its binding was stronger as it is a book that will be well used for a long time
