I bought this because a logic board failure in my MacBook Pro meant that I couldn't start up my computer any more. I extracted the hard drive and placed it in the plastic casing. The SATA connector worked perfectly (as you would expect it to).
The real beauty is that you don't need to power the hard drive using a plug in adaptor. Instead there are two USB connectors, one of which draws power to the hard drive and the other which is used for transferring data to and from the drive.
One downside is that as I was tranferring data, the hard drive began to get hot. It woul dbe nice if there was a metal case provided for the hard drive to sit in instead of the plastic case. A metal case would draw some of the heat away. I got around this by placing the drive inside the plastic case and then placing the whole lot into a cold frying pan to help dissipate the heat.
A second downside is that if you are using a computer that doesn't have two USB ports beside each other (not usually a problem these days) then you will need a USB hub to connect the USB cables to. I was using another old MacBookPro to transfer my data onto and I needed to use my USB hub for this.
However, these are really minor gripes, especially when considering the price. Speed of delivery was excellent and the packaging was brilliant too. No excess packaging, which delighted me.
