I have a laptop which only has a VGA output (Sony Vaio) and I bought a £40 VGA to HDMI converter to connect to my Panasonic HD TV but no use, I couldn't get any picture at all. However this thing works brilliantly and is much cheaper. I think the VGA to HDMI conversion is a bit tricky and may only work on some computers so proceed with caution. This solution is probably a better bet if you have an older laptop, until you get one with an HDMI port. The only hassle here is that you have three wires to plugin to the laptop, the USB power, the sound and the VGA outputs, so only 4 stars.

This is a great gadget and will be used constantly. It arrived promptly and works with both the TVs in the house, unless its an old TV its more than likely going to be fine.

Tip: If the TV has the wavy lines due to the wrong frequency just unplug the power from the box and plug it in again...seems to reset it.

I have already reviewed this product in May giving it 4 stars, however after using it for the 4th time it has stopped working, just getting vertical coloured lines.I purchased the same item from a different manufacturer(looks exactly the same) and guess what.......it also has the same problem.I think it would be wise to go for a more expensive converter ?.

Right then, I never, and I mean NEVER, write reviews on products that I buy BUT I thought I ought to having received this converter box today and immediately trying it out!

In my utterly pessimistic state, I never expected something costing just over a [] to work (having previously bought a simple cable (no conversion) for about the same price which absolutely didn't work), but... It's fantastic!

It worked straight out the box; I simply connected the power cord; VGA out from my laptop (Dell, running Windows 7); and, connected it to my old TV via the S-Video socket (oh, when I say old, I mean OLD! It's an ancient Panasonic 28" CRT bought back in 2002!!). What can I say? It actually works so well! There was no messing around with refresh rates or resolution, the laptop reconfigured the screen size (and reset it when the box was unplugged) all I needed to do was change the aspect on my TV to 'zoom' so it filled the whole screen, but that was it. Comparing it to the composite connection which also works, it's a much better picture quality (as you'd expect) on the S-Video output.

On the downside, the picture does stutter a little and I had to look away from the TV a few times to 'reset' my eyes. I watched something I'd downloaded from the BBC's iPlayer, but whilst it was playing I noticed that the picture on my laptop also stuttered in the same way too so am guessing that it's a lot more to do with the graphics card in my laptop than anything to do with the processing power of this fantastic little gizmo. It's way good enough to watch a programme lasting just over an hour and I'm quite particular about these things so would imagine that it's probably not all that bad!

I have a really old crt tv so I thought that the chances of being able to use it as a monitor were slim, if not none. But I was given hope when I read about this item so I thought I would give it a go and at the price it wouldnt be a massive loss if it didnt work. And it did!! The instructions are very minimal so you will have to figure out how to set it up yourself and I did have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work but apart from that I was very happy. Even includes a 3.5mm jack so you can have sound as well. Sorted

Bought this item to enable a lecture programme to be presented on a television from a laptop. For this purpose it worked fine but the picture quality would be fairly poor for watching videos or down loaded TV.
Price and delivery were excellent.

It seems to be made for the US market and consequently video signal output seems to be based on 60Hz and frame rate accordingly. This does not suit UK and European TVs and any that run on 50Hz. The so called instruction manual is hopeless and the product must be sourced from a small Chinese manufacturer as instruction material in English has vastly improved from established Chinese manufacturers. Seller has not responded to my complaint.

The box doesn't work, and when you try and return the bo you get ZERO response from PROXIMA. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this product and company.
