Product Description

For two thousand years the Triarii have protected us, influencing history from the crusades to the discovery of America. Descendent from the Roman Empire, they pervade every level of society, and are now in a race with our own government to retrieve an ancient artifact thought to have been lost forever.

Caught in the middle is archaeology professor James Acton, relentlessly hunted by the elite Delta Force, under orders to stop at nothing to possess what he has found, and the Triarii, equally determined to prevent the discovery from falling into the wrong hands.

With his students and friends dying around him, Acton flees to find the one person who might be able to help him, but little does he know he may actually be racing directly into the hands of an organization he knows nothing about...

The Protocol is a complete novel at 80,000 words or 310 trade paperback pages.

About the Author

J. Robert Kennedy wrote his first story when he was five. Everyone in it died. Things didn't get much better from there. After horrifying his teachers in creative writing classes he took an extended hiatus, returning to writing on a whim, haunted by the image of a woman standing in tall grass, the blades streaming through her fingers. The result was a short story, written in a single evening, Does It Matter? And then he let it sit. A couple of years later he let several friends read it and they encouraged him to try and get it published. He submitted it to The Sink and it was immediately accepted. Encouraged, he wrote a second story, Loving the Ingredients, and it too was accepted, along with a reprint of Does It Matter? by The Writers Post Journal. With several publishing credits under his belt, he was ready for something bigger. A phone conversation with a best friend led to Robert writing his first novel, The Protocol. Lachesis Publishing, the first publisher he sent it to, agreed to publish it and cloud nine got a little more crowded. His next effort, Depraved Difference, was accepted for publication by a diferent publisher, however he turned down the offer, and decided to publish it independently on the Kindle, allowing him to offer his books at the prices he felt readers wanted to pay for eBooks. Robert was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and grew up an Air Force brat, living in Halifax and Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Goose Bay, Labrador, Lahr and Baden, Germany, and finally Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He escaped his parent's clutches to attend university in Waterloo and settled in Ottawa, Ontario. Robert has a wife and daughter, and is hard at work on his next novel.

A book I will definitely read again. I bought The Protocol by J Robert Kennedy to spend a relaxing weekend with a good book. It ended up costing me sleep. I couldn't put it down. The use of international locales and the mixture of ancient cults with modern forces is brilliantly carried out by Kennedy. I enjoy a book that makes you anticipate what will happen in the next chapter so that you don't want to take a break from it for fear you'll actually miss something. Kennedy delivers.

Fast and furious 21 Aug 2011

If you want fast and furious, if you can cope with a high body count, most of all if you like to be hugely entertained, then you can't do much better than J Robert Kennedy.

Having read and loved Depraved Difference, I started this, his earlier novel, with high hopes and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Take an archaeologist or two, a conspiracy, a secret society, the US military, the British police - mix in some car chases, a lot of gore and a little romance and you have the recipe for a cracking thriller that gallops along at breakneck speed.

This book has a huge cast and a fairly complicated plot but Kennedy manages to keep all the balls in the air till the very end and then catches them neatly and skilfully. Sure, you might have to suspend your disbelief from time to time, but that's no hardship - with likeable protagonists and some humour to lighten the tone, this is a great, fun read. Highly recommended.

What a fabulous book, it never lets you pause for breath and I found it hard to put it down! Really well written and the characters are believable.

However there is a reason I've only given it 4 rather than 5 stars. Whilst not a huge flaw I think it would have been nice for the author to pay a bit more attention to where the characters were, I don't really think it's very believable for british police officers to give instructions relating to sidewalks and blocks. Fair enough the author is American but I don't think it would harm to use british terms whilst using british characters (Fair enough if the american character had spoken).

However this is a minor attention to detail which didn't detract from the book it just slightly bugged me. Overall a really great action thriller for an amazing price, I would not hesitate to recommend this!

Good, but light-weight.
Great book if you want some light fast-paced reading. Only a few of the characters are fully developed in the storyline, and the remainder seem to be there just to be bumped off... Read more
