5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic collection 30 May 2013
Format:Audio CD
Anyone considering buying this CD should completely ignore the uninformed opinion of the one star reviewer. Not only is this collection fantastic value for money it contains classic American songs from the 20s right through to the 50s ( 'depression', rubbish)..the antecedents to the protest movements of the 60s. It's got everything from anti-war to racism and the treatment of the poor white working class and immigrant labour, much of it moving, all of it performed by great artists such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Leadbelly. It's a must for anybody interested in Americana,

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection 28 April 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is one of those collections that delivers - good quality and full of good selections. It is more than a collection of protest songs, more a soundtrack of the period.
Well packaged and delivered on time - a good buy

4.0 out of 5 stars PRJL 8 Dec 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A good mixture of mainly U.S.A. protest songs from several decades (40s to 70s) and provides a perspective of protest music and the artists who created it. Many of the songs feature in the book "33 revolutions per minute", which lists 100 protest songs and gives good background information on the artists concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneers of protest. 6 Sep 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A great selection of songs from Guthrie to Baez.
From the dustbowl to the campuses of the 60's.
As relevant to today as they were then.
Depressing thought but a neccessary one, if were not to give in.

1.0 out of 5 stars still got the blues 21 April 2013
Format:MP3 Download
If like me you like gutsy lyrics and political songs and are fed up listening to Dylan, I'm afraid this album is not for you.
I should have noticed the songs are from the depression
Which I guess means before my time.
I skipped through the intro,s of most of them and the album was deleted with in 5 minutes.
