Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Looking for a diet that really shifts those inches? Tried low fat, calorie counting, grapefruit, cabbage and all manner of other food combining, detoxing diet regimes and still the pounds creep back? You may just need a spot of Protein Power.

The Doctors Eades reckon that following this plan will help you to stop treating fat as the enemy, allow you to eat the foods you love, find new energy levels, reset your metabolism, lower "bad" cholesterol levels and raise the "good" and help protect you from high blood pressure and heart disease. Phew.

The plan is based around the principle that the immediate effect of carbohydrate consumption--something that is often encouraged in other diets as carbohydrates have a "filling" effect--lead to an instant increase in blood sugar levels, which in turn leads to an increase in insulin levels and elevated insulin levels are associated with obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. By avoiding foods that boost insulin levels in this way, symptoms are alleviated and weight loss is a welcome side effect.

The recipes, meal plans, exercise ideas and, most importantly, a list of foods that are OK as snacks, make for interesting reading, although the plan itself may at first seem a little regimented. But it certainly does make sense and with a little perseverance it might just work--it certainly won't do you any harm. --Susan Harrison

This book has changed my life. I have been on every high-carb low-fat diet on the planet- Twice! With each diet, I became fatter and more depressed. My most recent bout with Jenny Craig found me questioning why, if I followed the program perfectly, I gained weight, but if I "cheated" and ate the meat that I love, I would LOSE weight. I started looking for diet books which advocate protein and stumbled upon this gem. It makes complete sense. As I read it, I found out reasons for such questions I'd had as to why do I gain weight on a low-fat diet, why am I so tired, why is my skin and nails a mess, why am I constantly hungry, etc. After only ONE WEEK on the unbelievably easy Protein Power plan, I have lost 6 lbs. and an inch off my waist and an inch off my hips. I feel stronger, healthier, and mentally alert. I no longer NEED an afternoon nap each day. I feel as if I have my life back again!

This is a great diet book that grips like a detective story. Converted me and I lost 15 pounds in five weeks - never felt hungry and feel fitter for it. However the editors of the UK edition have removed all references to the US 'cup' as a measure in this book BUT NOT ADDED ANYTHING IN PLACE!. Thus the tables of carbohydrate equivalents which are absolutely essential to the diet are totally meaningless. What to do? Wait until the reviews of this review pick up the problem and issue the US version unchanged for the UK market.

Being a plump 'carbohydrate junkie' all my life, I could never understand why I couldnt loose excess fat. I would starve myself, live on porrage oats and water for days on end, only to gain weight!. I bought this book out of desperation as a friend had lost 30 pounds on a hight protine diet, and I thought I'd give it ago. Within days I had lost weight and started to feel much healthier, but best of all I could controll my appitite as I didnt feel hungry and my ravenous desire to stuff my face had gone. I knew that if I could controll my appitite I would be on a winner, but up until now it controlled me!. If Im totally honest I found the book a little bit daunting to start, working out your body fat content etc, but soon got into the hang of it. But honestly this diet is based on the principle of 'Common sense' eat wisely don't go into it thinking you can eat as much protine as you like, rather eat what your body needs and if you feel you want more eat only a little!. I think its the best diet book that I have ever read, it makes a lot of sense and you can analyse where you have gone wrong in the past. I havent stopped talking about it since I bought it!. I wish I could meet the authors...I would kiss them!
