Rugged, Multi-Layer Case

OtterBox is the innovator of the first multi-layer case. Since that first case many have tried to create something similar, but nothing beats the original. Innovative engineering and precision design work together to create this multi-layer case that provides trusted protection against drops, dust, scratches and shock.

High-Quality Materials

The Defender Series is made up of a two-piece polycarbonate inner shell that deflects impact force, a self-adhering screen protector that guards against scratches and scrapes and an outer durable synthetic rubber slip cover that absorbs impact. These materials work together to take on the heavy use and accidental abuse that can happen to your vital device.

Included Shield Stand

This Defender Series case comes standard with a shield stand. This stand provides added protection when covering the touch screen during transport. It also provides for convenient use with comfortable typing and viewing angles.

Technology Use Without Worry

This is the case you need if you want to be careless, work in harsh conditions, are tough on technology, anticipate heavy use, or are just plain clumsy. Enjoy your work, your life, your adventures, whatever they may be - without worry of damaging your Kindle Fire HD 7” along the way.

Defender Series Case Features

  • Robust, 3-layer protective case withstands drops, bumps and shock
  • Self-adhering screen protector guards against scratches and scrapes to the touch screen
  • Port covers block dust and debris from entering and accumulating in ports and jacks
  • Included shield stand accommodates comfortable viewing and typing angles
  • Shield stand provides added protection during transport

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit! 25 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase
I have often sung the praises of Otterbox cases for electronic items. I would do so again for this item, but unfortunately, this time, I can't!!

We ordered this for the Kindle Fire HD 7" for my autistic son, to ensure that he would not break it by accidentally dropping it. On arrival, it was obvious it did not fit, but we attempted to fit it anyway - just to make sure. When we looked at the packaging, it appears that the manufacturer has placed a new sizing sticker over the original. On peeling back the sticker that states this is for HD 7", we found that the original sticker states that the item is for the Kindle Fire HDX - the new Amazon tablet. Needless to say, I am extremely unhappy that the manufacturer has done this, as the two tablets are not the same!! Otterbox - sort yourselves out!

Update on 3rd December:

I do not believe that a product review is a place to comment on Amazon's performance. However, I would say top marks to Amazon in this case. They spotted my dis-satisfaction and contacted me directly to try to organise a return (I had already put this in motion). Then, they have made a small gesture to say sorry for the problem, when it was not of their making.

The only remaining problem is the continuing mis-description on this item, which I was assured had been changed. It is not changed yet - it still says that it does NOT fit Kindle Fire HDX, but is for all-new Kindle Fire 7". This should be the other way round. If this gets changed, this review is no longer relevant and I can take it off the site. Until then - know what you are buying!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Robust case 26 April 2014
Verified Purchase
Once the case was fitted to the Kindle Fire HD it has become almost indestructible! No longer do we worry about our 8 year old dropping it or leaving it anywhere, it has completely made us relax about the kindle being broken. An absolute must for any child with a fragile device.

5.0 out of 5 stars I consider this the best case for the All-New Kindle Fire 7" Tablet! 14 Nov 2013
By Techie To The Nines - Published on Amazon.com

We bought two of these for our sons' Kindles - the All-New Kindle Fire 7" tablet (currently $139.00) - and LOVE them so far. These cases FIT PERFECTLY. I have read a few other reviews stating that they do not, but I assure you that they do fit, and all buttons, ports, speakers are fully accessible. We bought these cases based on previous experience with OtterBox Defender cases for the iPhone, and these are built very similar. It has the internal hard plastic shell with the built-in clear screen protector which basically envelopes the entire device, the rubber/silicone outer cover that hugs around the internal case, and a cover/shell that can be snapped over the front to add another layer of protection when the Kindle is not being used. This cover also doubles as a stand that can be utilized in a variety of ways. I feel confident now that they boys' Kindles are much more protected and can live up the normal abuse children can inflict on electronic devices. Another huge selling point for me was the OtterBox warranty. They have a stellar customer service department! I had a previous iPhone case malfunction and they sent me a new one with a simple email and photo. My mother and two friends have had the same experience. Although these cases do seem to be a bit expensive at first glance, I feel they are 100% worth it based on the quality, amount of protection given, and the OtterBox warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing even comes close. 14 Oct 2013

I ordered this back on the 30th of September and felt that it was going to be worth the wait. I was not disappointed. This case gives the New Kindle all around protection, including the screen. Now, this case is not for the "I just need a cover" crowd. This case is a tank and looks like it will stand up to just about anything besides being put under water that you can throw at it.

Forget the Square Trade protection plan, get one of these and forgidaboutit.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like Ballistic Better 16 Oct 2013
By Daisy Lopez - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
I own a Ballistic case for my iPhone and I love it. I checked to see if they were going to make cases for the new Kindles, but I didn't find any. After emailing the company and being told that they would not be making it for the new models, I ordered this one. For starters, Otterbox is at least twice as expensive as Ballistic, so that's a negative.

Pros:
-Great protection for your Kindle
-Integrated screen protection
-Stand is integrated as well <---This is my favorite thing about this case

Cons:
-Kindle seems to heat up a bit using the case
-Port covers don't indicate what port it is covering (for example, the Ballistic covers have a picture of headphones for the headset jack and other symbols, making it easy to identify what port is being protected; these cases do not); don't like that I have to uncover them to find the port I need
-A little heavy, but that's to be expected from a case like this

Overall I feel this was the next best choice since Ballistic won't be making cases for the new line of Kindle Fires (...maybe in the future they will).

5.0 out of 5 stars Toddler-proof 11 Nov 2013
By C. Garty - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
This case makes the tablet scratch, drop, and toddler resistant. The screen cover is high quality and clear doesn't detract from the viewing experience. The casing is strong and rubbery to protect it from injury. And the weight is light enough that you can hold it up for an hour for reading, watching, and browsing.

3.0 out of 5 stars I normally LOVE Otterbox cases but this one is a little problematic 1 Dec 2013
By sb-lynn - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name:Papaya|Verified Purchase
I have used several OtterBox covers both fro my Apple products and Amazon and I really recommend them. They are sturdy and full-proof your phone/devise/tablet and they will last longer than what you're protecting.

Saying that, I thought this cover made it a little hard to work the controls, in particular the volume controls. I don't see anyone else complaining about this but that's the trouble I'm having. You really have to hold down HARD on the rubberized part covering the volume up/down. The same for the on/off but that's not as bad. This is a real problem for me because when I want to change the volume I want to do it quickly without trying so hard and without having to clumsily exert so much pressure with my fingers. And when I do find the spot I don't want the volume to go skyrocketing up or down which is what is happening.

I am not sure I would've gotten this for my new Kindle Fire but the reviews for the Amazon origami cover sound like that one is a bigger problem.

So, this might just be an issue with my cover but I don't think so; as I said I've owned lots of Otterbox covers in the past and I know this one is put on correctly so it may just be too thick for this Kindle.

On the plus side, this looks really nice and I really feel like my Kindle Fire is secure. Plus I am going to hope that over time the problems I'm having will improve with use .

By the way, if you have trouble figuring out how to first put on the cover, don't despair - Otterbox covers are tricky! I recommend going to YouTube and you can see how it's done. The hardest part for me is the first time you separate the silicone cover because you feel like you're forcing it too much and it will break it, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.
