Whislt visiting a friend i accidently came across this book and being a big fan of The orignal author of the book and knowing his works i was very pleasently surprised to see a newly translated copy both from a translatore i respect and a publisher with an excellent reputation.

The book is a exceprted translation from the Orginal of Imam Gazalli, the Ihya Ulum ad-Din. He begins by ouytlining the benefits and rewards of marriage but also poiniently outlines its pitfalls if we are within ourselves insincere or have chosen to be married without the correct knowledge.

The most interesting thing about the book is the fine detail he goes into together with intricate and easyily read vocabulary which flow, almost as if you've read it before.

My comments are only a little bias because of my reverence for the original author but my hat off to the team who have produced a much justified translation for the english speaking seeker of knowledge.

It is a must read wether your dooomsday (kidding) is in the process, has come already or is in the pipeline. Even if you do not fall into any of these categories just for the joy of reading its a must have.

I know University professors who wont refute Imam Ghazali, and i can see why. This book is another master piece of his, like all his other work. An amazing and gifted man. The book is a deep reflection on how marriage should be. A must for all, be you married or not. I advise you to buy all the books and dip into them often.

The standard reference source for marital issues in Islam 22 Dec 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is jam packed with references from the Quran and the Ahadith on marital issues. The information presented is very well synthasized and very logically/reasonably derived. A must for all married muslims, and is rather more useful for muslims thinking about marraige.

Buy it 20 Sep 2002
By Munawar Ali - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Was I surprised when Imam Ghazali once again immpressed and inspried me with his writing? Well, yeah, actually I was. This was a really good book, Imam Ghazali comes at the whole issue from points of view I didn't quite have in mind when I picked the book up.

Adab un-Nikah explains many aspects of marriage that never made sense to me. The book goes over the advantages of marriage, the disadvantages, the problem with woman (And he gets picky) and then finally Imam Ghazali's conclusion. He hits on many arcane ideas and concepts that were new to me. A lot of chapters covered things I'd never related to marriage.

The book is written specifically for men, but woman will find this book useful also (If only to glean the wisom in Imam Ghazali's written word). My only difficulty in the book was that it was written from a very high-level sufi perspective. Many of examples used in the book do not exist anymore, or are very uncommon. (ie. topics covering single men who have devoted their entire lives to Dhikr)

The prose is easy...the layman can easily understand the text. At some parts, I wonder at how accurate the translation was; but alas, this is the only English version available.

I recommend this book for all married muslims, esspecially the men. Unmarried men/woman might be confused at some aspects of the book, but it's still good to read. As for non-muslims...You'll need a strong Islamic Knowledge base before you try tackling this one...

The definitive guide to marriage based on classical Islam 21 Jan 2001
By Mr. A. Jehangir - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book written by the venerable "Proof of Islam" and great scholar, theologian and Sufi Imam Abu Haamid al Ghazzali is a superb work full of Qura'nic ayats, hadiths of the Beloved Messenger and sayings of the great awliya and ulama vis-a-vis the important subject of marriage. The Imam details with, in his unmatched style, all the important aspects of marriage including the spiritual aspects.

A must read and a book all Muslims should have! Beautifully presented by Al Baz publications.

May Allah bless the soul of Imam Ghazzali!
