5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any soul lover..... 24 Aug 2011

This is another Holland Dozier Holland production, and along with Motown and Stax you know it's gonna be good if they've got something to do with it.

This is, in my view at least, the perfect style of soul, hooks galore, with lots of rhythm and groove and vocals that make you want to sing. I'd put this in the same bracket as Chairmen Of The Board, i.e. really under-rated yet producing some fantastic soul tunes that you might know and if you didn't, you'll wonder how you lived without them!

This is classic soul, with both albums being 5 stars, you won't regret buying it.....hopefully anyway!!

5.0 out of 5 stars the complete 100 Proof [Aged in Soul] 28 Nov 2009
By brazuka - Published on Amazon.com
Led by vocalist Steve Mancha, 100 Proof [Aged in Soul] was one of the best groups of soul music from the early seventies. Produced by the Creative Corporation (Holland-Dozier-Holland), the group had many hit singles from 1969 to 1972, like "Too Many Cooks (Spoil the Soup)", "Driveway", "90 Day Freeze (On Her Love)", "Everything Good is Bad", "Since You Been Gone" and the mega hit "Somebody's Been Sleeping".

The double CD comprises the albums "Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed" (1970) and "100 Proof Aged in Soul" (1971), plus thirteen bonus tracks - non album singles and single edits - some that not appeared on the Castle edition from 1999, like "Somebody's Been Sleeping" (UK single edit), "She's Not Just Another Woman", "Breakdown", "If I Could See the Light in the Window" (Version 2) and two singles from 1976/1977 - "My Piece of the Rock" (vocal and instrumental) and "I'm Mad as Well" (Ain't Gonna Take no More), parts 1 and 2.

The group split in 1973, when the brothers Brian and Eddie Holland (now minus Lamont Dozier) moved to Los Angeles.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars another 70s discovery 12 April 2012
By Donald E. Gilliland - Published on Amazon.com

Here's another band that should have been much bigger in the 70s. They had great songs, some powerful singers (one of whom was Levi Stubbs' brother --- how many Four Tops fans were aware of that fact?!), but apparently poor distribution and/or management. But as part of the post-Motown Holland-Dozier-Holland music making machine at Invictus, 100 Proof Aged in Soul had what it took and SHOULD have been better known in soul and pop music circles. Songs like "Don't Scratch (where it don't itch)" ... "Somebody's Been Sleeping" ... "She's just not another woman" ... and "Too Many Cooks" are irrisistable soul-pop gems. This is a generous 2-CD set full of fine material from their two studio albums. Fans of 70s soul groups like the Four Tops, Chairman of the Board, Main Ingredient, and so on, should really enjoy this collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two 100 Proof albums plus bonus tracks! 11 Mar 2013

Two albums on two CDs plus 13 bonus tracks! From the HDH roster of artists, 100 Proof has a lotta soul, with that classic HDH sound! Plenty of very catchy R&B/early "disco" tracks. Superb set worth giving a listen. Recommended.
