The book gives a useful overview of some of the issues facing children in public care. I found it to be useful for developing resilence plans to sit along side care plans for children in the looked after system. The book also sits easily with the Quality Protects agenda and is useful to use as a guide in developing resilence in children. it is also a useful text book for practioners. The book offers practical assistance with child focused exercises for work with ages over about 8 years.
I think this book is an asset to anyone's resource library

As a social work student I found this book helpful to enable me to understand what resilience is, and how to encurage it. It was not helpful for assignments though as I found the book badly laid out and hard to scan for theories etc. There is no index (which I find is becoming incresingly popular and increasingly iritating!!) which makes it hard to pick up to find something or to reference from. The book is made up of lots of bulletpoints, which makes it factual and to the point, no jib! This I thought was great as its full of valid points rather than where it came from etc, but again made it hard to search for particualar item as pages are similar looking.

I thing it is great for anyone who is in family and childcare, but not for essay writing.
