More About the Author

Through both words and deeds, Debbie Macomber inspires women from all walks of life to realise their dreams.

She overcame the obstacles in her own life to become one of the world's most popular writers. She encourages women to achieve the goals that burn in their hearts as fiercely as the desire to become a bestselling novelist did in her own.

When Debbie first decided to write a novel, people called her a hopeless dreamer. She had only a high school degree and was dyslexic. She was also the very young mother of four active children. No one believed she had what it took to write a book--except Debbie. She eventually saved enough money to rent an old typewriter, and every night when the children were asleep, she would sit down to write.

She wrote--for years. But each time she completed a story and mailed it off to a publisher, the manuscript was returned, stamped "rejected." As tough as it was to keep her spirits alive, Debbie never gave up. Five long years and thousands of pages later, she received a letter in the afternoon mail. The letter was from Silhouette Books--and they wanted to buy her story. Her first novel, Heartsong, was published as a Silhouette in 1984, and it became the first romance novel ever to be reviewed in Publishers Weekly.

Today, Debbie is the internationally acclaimed author of more than 100 novels and has sold over 60 millions copies. Popular around the globe, she receives approximately three thousand letters from readers every month. And she responds personally to each one.

In lectures around the country, Debbie encourages women to "exercise the success muscle." She also offers advice on how to achieve success in seeking or changing a career, building family relationships, forming healthy relationships and more.

Like her heartwarming novels, Debbie's inspirational speeches are always filled with laughter and love. She cares deeply about the women she touches with her writing, and she continues to mentor people around the country. She also volunteers her considerable talents to help raise much-needed funds for battered-women's shelters, literacy and medical research.

She lives with her husband in Port Orchard, Washington. Their children are grown and she is a proud grandmother.

Format: Mass Market Paperback
Two years ago in California, a car accident left her near perfect figure with ugly scars and a limp. Her spouse divorced her so when her childhood friend Dr. Jane Patterson invited Annie Applegate to relocate to Promise, Texas, she accepts and opens up a successful book store.
The two precocious children of widow Lucas Porter love going to Annie's book store. Lucas, who refuses to entangle himself in another loving relationship, also cannot resist the lure of the newcomer. When his housekeeper leaves town, Lucas offers a marriage of convenience that will help him with his children while helping each other put off the loneliness of having no companion. However, this is Promise where love always enters the picture.
Fans of Debbie Macomber's great "Heart of Texas" series will be elated that the awesome author returns to Promise with a fabulous novel. The story line reads more like interconnecting vignettes that only Ms. Macomber could keep interesting and straight. The brief description above describes only one of the numerous relationships that are progressing in Promise. Old friends return such as Dovie and Frank, and new buddies arrive such as Jeanie. One promise that readers know is that Ms. Macomber provides the top in entertaining relationship dramas.

Format: Paperback
Some three or four years after the events of the first six books in the Heart of Texas series, Debbie Macomber takes the reader back to Promise, Texas. Dr Jane Patterson's friend, Annie Applegate, flees California where a car accident left her badly scarred and led to a nasty divorce, to live, at Jane's urging, in Promise. Annie opens a bookstore and has soon captivated the town, including the local veterinarian, widower Dr Lucas Porter and his two young daughters. Eventually, what starts as a marriage of convenience occurs between them: is there any hope of turning it into the real thing? Schoolteacher Jeannie French isn't really interested in Sherriff Adam Jordan, although he seems to be somewhat enamoured with her. Trouble is, every time he comes near her, he manages to mess up, tearing her skirt, spilling sauce on her best blouse, locking her keys in her car. Until the annual Cattleman's Association Dance, she just wishes he'd leave her alone, but there, she sees another side of Adam. Dovie Hennessey's sister-in-law, Nessa Boyd, has been living in Promise since her husband died. Looking after the store when Dovie and Frank go to Europe brings her in contact with an acquaintance of Dovie's, Gordon Pawling, and they find they have much in common. Readers will welcome the return of much-loved characters from previous books: Savannah and Grady hear from their jailed brother Richard; Nell Grant is worried about the visit of her husband's ex-wife to Promise for purposes unknown; the Patterson brothers and their wives are concerned about the behaviour of their mother Mary; and Amy McMillen's mother is making her life a misery. Once again, the ghost town of Bitter End features. Macomber's forte is characters and relationships; her plots are mostly predictable, but have the occasional twist; above all, feelgood is the order of the day.

Another fab Macomber book. Whilst reading this book I actually felt I was living in Promise, Texas. The characters came to life as with all Debbie,s books. Long may she continue to write such gems.
