Promise of Love is a real Curate's Egg of an album, and no mistake; About half the tracks have a thrilling dynamism and combine staccato drumming, chugging omnichord guitars and vocal harmonies to often dizzying effect. But the rest have a distinctly filler-esque feel to them. And yet, I've no regrets about buying Amanset's latest, because songs like Hard To Find, Continuous Hit Music and the standout Fool Around take their template and make it into shimmering guitar power-pop of the first order. If the rest had this consistency and poise then this would be an essential purchase.
