From Amazon.co.uk

An attractive cast of young performers lead by Brittany Snow (Hairspray) is the main selling point for Prom Night, a remake of the 1980 Canadian slasher film starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Snow makes for a capable lead as the sole survivor of her family's massacre at the hands of an obsessed teacher (Jonathan Schaech), who returns three years later to finish his campaign on the eve of her senior prom. While no one's idea of a classic horror film, the Paul Lynch-directed Prom Night offered viewers a modest whodunit angle in between the killings; here, the villain's identity is known from the get-go, and what's left is a string of mechanical stalkings (which feature a surprisingly modest amount of blood) and reams of turgid teenspeak, which is handled as best as possible by Snow and her cast mates. The end result is a dull, suspense-free chiller that manages to make its mediocre source material seem inspired by comparison. Older moviegoers may note the presence of actors Idris Elba and James Ransone, both used so well on The Wire, and so thoroughly wasted here. --Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

3.0 out of 5 stars Competent but no classic 12 Jun 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is a trend amongst the big studios to remake old films rather than commit to new scripts and this remake of Prom Night continues the trend. Unfortunately, there is also the notion that what really matters is the profit and to this end it appears that the sex and violence have been toned down in order to get a lower rating and thus attract a wider audience.

As the title suggests, the action takes place at the school prom where a deranged stalker has targeted a pretty teenager. Of course nobody knows he is there and despite the presence of the police, the killer works his way through the unsuspecting victims.

This film has the look of a TV movie where everyone comes from well-to-do households and everything and everyone is glossy and clean. It is very much a cleaned-up version of the original. It is OK for an evening's entertainment but it is also instantly forgettable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stay in the kitchen at this party 15 Dec 2011
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
I like a good slasher movie as much as the next person, but from the outset, this one is very formulaic, slow and predictable.
The scene is set some years earlier with the baddie killing the heroine's family. It's briefly explained that he was an obsessive teacher but doesn't really go far enough to explain why this chap is so intent on killing the object of his desire.
The film moves on at a slow pace, eventually centring around a high school senior prom, with the typical characters of a super bitch surrounded by an adoring entourage, in pursuit of being Prom Queen. The Heroine and her friends are of course not part of that group.
The man escapes from his psycho ward, finds the prom and starts killing people in a frankly, dull way for a slasher movie.
I'll not spoil the ending other than I was glad to get there.
The basic concept of the story is fine, but it could have filled out in a far better way, giving us a good understanding of this teacher and his obsession with perhaps a vengeance twist against the school, staff and students. This isn't a film you need to try and think through, which for me is probably what lets it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dont know why people hate this 7 April 2010
Format:Blu-ray
This film is fun righ from the start. i never once found it slow or boring. The suspence is great. The acting in generally good and the blu ray quality is brilliant. If you have seen the trailerand think it looks like agood film, then you will enjoythis because what you get from the trailer is what you get from the whole film. It is a remae of the orignal but has nothing incommon, but does not bother me because the original was not fantastic or had charactors you would remember. i would hihly recommend this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't miss a single cliché...
Well, this sure isn't a very good film - in fact, it's quite awful - but, for an awful film, it's still rather more enjoyable than it has any right to be. Read more
