Great little machine, 4 April 2010
This review is from: Prolectrix Infra Chef Family Size Halogen Oven (Kitchen & Home)
To be honest I wasn't sure about how good this product would be but having had it for a few weeks now I would definitely recommend it even if you (like me) have a full size oven as well.
This saves oodles of time and effort if you only want to cook one or two things (when I say 1 or 2 I mean a full roast duck and roast vegetables to go with it). It cooks a good size bird in about 40 mins (not quite 25 to 30 but still) and having the accessories to go with it, i.e. the metal stands to drain the fat makes it a healthy option. To catch the fat in I put a layer of foil in the bottom of the bowl which helps make it easier to clean although the self cleaning facility does a good job!
So far I've done roast chicken, roast duck, sausages, burgers, roast potatoes & parsnips and they have all come out really well and saves time with having to put the oven on, wait for it to warm up etc.
The only thing that hasn't come out so well so far is biscuits, other than that a good applicance at a good price and it did arrive in time (I contacted the seller and got a prompt response with tracking the delivery).
Overall I'm pleased with it.

So much quicker and lovely recipes so far!, 22 April 2010
This review is from: Prolectrix Infra Chef Family Size Halogen Oven (Kitchen & Home)
I've seen lots of versions of this in shops so decided to see if I could get one online a bit cheaper. I went through all the options and went for this one as it has a lid stand and racks and all sorts included and I've noticed that you have to buy these seperately on some of the other models. I've tried it for quite a few things now, I've tried a couple of the recipes that came in the recipe book with the unit and they were lovely! The chicken with pancetta, garlic and rosemary was really nice and the chicken was really juicy so if you're going to try it follow the times exactly! The egg custard flan cooked up a treat too, and luckily I managed to not curdle my custard (which is a common mistake of mine when I make it from scratch). I've cooked a chicken in it too which, again, came out really nice (it took about 45 mins). There's a website with lots of timings on called halogen-oven which came up when I searched for timings and it tells you how to cook all sorts on there so I've not been stuck at all. All in all, very impressed with the product and have found I've not had my big oven on much this week at all.

Amazing, 11 May 2010
This review is from: Prolectrix Infra Chef Family Size Halogen Oven (Kitchen & Home)
I got one of these in Netto a few weeks ago, and have not looked back since, it's a really good oven and does a lot of things just as good as the conventional oven does. It also boasts that it saves electricity, we'll see when the bill comes in, but it does seem to be using less watts, 1400 to be precise.
This is a 12ltr machine, which will hold a 1.6kg chicken with ease, and you can even put your roast potatoes in. It has two shelves, a lower shelf for vegetables, and an upper shelf for meat and so on. The best thing we have had in it so far is battered fish, it's cooked to perfection in 25 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius, and we have done steak and gammon, and been pretty pleased with it so far.
It takes time to learn how to use it, but in a fortnight I have found it easier and am being more adventurous. One thing I would say is try not to overlap things like chips as some of them don't cook as well, but for things like jacket potatoes this has been very good, and used less energy than the cooker.
This would be perfect for a single person living in a small flat, you can do a great deal with this and it's light means you don't need the kitchen lights on. I wouldn't recommend any books about it so far, as they don't have much more than the manual that came with this - it's all a case of testing it out. When you think it can cook, steam, boil and roast, amongst other things, it's a really good machine for it's price. We have used this 85% of the time we have had it over 2 weeks and it's been fantastic. The bonus is that this can clean itself in 5 minutes with a bit of washing up liquid and water on 100 degrees wash.
Highly recommended, even if you have an oven.
