4.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag. 12 Dec 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I am a great fan of Prokofiev's music, especially his piano output. I was looking forward to listening to these CDs, to compare them to other recordings I have. And I have to say I am somewhat disappointed. Let me explain.

The painist has great technical skills and generally produces good performances. What disturbs me is the extremes of boom in the base - I know Prokofiev's music is strident and angular but these extremes of base are not in balance with the rest of the music.

I have noticed that the recordings span several different sessions in different locations over quite a few years. Different engineers have been used to produce the recordings so I suspect the problems are to do with recording than with the actual performances. I have tried the CDs with several different set of hifi equipment, including a £700 amp, £400 CD player and £2000 speakers - so it's not my equipment.

So, if you do go ahead and get these CDs be advised that some of the recordings are a bit disappointing.

But still worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth every penny! 9 May 2012

I am going trough a Prokofiev period in my 50 plus long career as a classical music enthusiast.
I strongly recommend this collection.
The quality of the recording and of the playing is superb.
It is not the only version that I own and I think of it highly.
You do yourself a favor if you buy it and share it with friends as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars AU FIL DU RASOIR 18 Oct 2011
By PVP - Published on
Format:Audio CD
