This excellent EMI re-issue of Prokofiev's five piano concertos is a must have in anyone's collection. Being a lover of Prokofiev's Seven Symphonies I was keen to listen to his piano concertos and this two CD set is a great place to start. I already knew the popular third piano concerto fairly well, but it was very refreshing to get to know the other four. This was made easy with Michel Beroff's scintillating piano playing and fine orchestral backing from the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Also very interesting on CD two was the Overture on Jewish Themes, which wasn't in the composer's style at all, and was for string Quartet and solo Clarinet. It, like the last piece Visions fugitives, was fascinating to listen to.
