Of all my DVDs this is one I keep going back to. This owes much to Prokofief's superb musical score, but in terms of ballet it is a most enjoyable production, intimate rather than lavish, with the lovely and appealing Gabriella Komleva in the title role as Zolushka, or Cinderella, and the fine dancer Murad Daoukaev as her young prince. L.Galinskaya and M. Koul contribute fine dancing and humour as the sisters, who are presented as pretty and sexy, but rather jealous and spiteful, teenagers.
This performance, dating to 1985, is based on the first production of the ballet, in 1944 in the West Siberian city of Molotov (now once again called Perm) where the Kirov company had relocated under wartime conditions. The great Galina Ulanova then danced the title role.
