Product Description

Product Description

Relatively little has been published on the Natter and this book will provide a detailed and definitive account of this unusual but fascinating aircraft. This book will be required reading for all those interested in the history of the Luftwaffe during World War 2, particularly those fascinated by the radical and revolutionary projects which German aircraft designers contrived towards the end of the Nazi regime.

The author draws from many different sources and presents many unseen photographs. A very thorough analysis has been made from a wealth of (sometimes conflicting) information. Pictures range from early primitive sketches of the craft to beautiful 3D schematics, the weapons systems, rocket motor, production line, key players in the development of the natter and most impressively, stills from several different launches including the tragic manned flight.

What stood out the most was just the sheer volume of quotes and picture evidence from a short lived and obscure project. The seemingly crude and rushed nature of the project conceals some very sound principles and ideas way before their time. The author makes a comparison to the space shuttle projects many decades later.

Highly recommended!

Everything you ever wanted to know (plus lots of stuff you didn't even know you wanted to know)about this amazing aircraft. It is encyclopedic !
The Natter was the ultimate interceptor that dispensed with everything that was not absolutely necessary, such as runways, undercarriage, trained pilots etc.
This wooden rocket had a (very brief) performance that was not bettered for a decade, and went from first sketch to semi-operational deployment in three months. They don't make them like that anymore.

Having had an interest in late war Luftwaffe aircraft and rockets for many years, I saw this book, and thought it could be just what I was lacking in my collection.
The book is filled with facts and figures from those dark days of the 1940's, and supplies you with many useful facts, and overall information on the Bachem Natter. I wonder what would have happened had the Nazis had more time with this amazing little rocket - could it have been the wonder weapon they wanted to stem the tide of allied bombers over their Fatherland?
Excellent book to have, filled with many photographs of "Projekt Natter", and a very enjoyable read as well.

Highly recommended!
