Book Description

1 May 2009
The Project Techniques Toolbox covers more than 50 project techniques including those for the powerful product based planning approach. These are grouped into five categories: Project Planning (including product and activity planning techniques) People Management (such as the RACI Matrix and what makes for demotivation) Business Case (including Discounted Cash Flow - NPV - and Sensitivity Analysis) Risk Management (including the Work Flow Diagram for risk and Ishikawa fish bones) Project Control (including Exception Management, Delivery Checklist and spend control) But it also includes several advice notes on things like where to put contingency in a plan and how to move from product planning to activity planning. Each technique is explained simply and concisely, usually on a single sheet and many have full colour diagrams. The whole set is presented in an A4 ring binder which means you can take out a single page for reference while you are working and you can also add in your own notes to personalise your copy of the toolbox and make it ever more useful.

More About the Author

Nick has many years experience of project management but seems to be none the worse for it. Although the author of several books, several in the John Wiley 'for Dummies' series, he spends a lot of his time delivering training. He is available to run 'in-company' training and workshops on project governance and project management and does so throughout the private, public and charity sectors. Like the books, these events are focused on down-to-earth practicality - things that really help get the job done and deliver projects successfully. Those attending his courses have described his style as energetic, lively, fun, very practical and very informative.

If you're interested in asking Nick to deliver project management training or help establish highly effective project governance in your organisation, just visit www.inspirandum.com or www.projectgovernance.co.uk.

With the PRINCE2® project management method, Nick's experience goes back to before it was called PRINCE! He delivers accredited PRINCE2 training from full practitioner through to team briefings - and yes, 'PRINCE2 for Dummies' is given out on his practitioner courses as part of the course support material! He is also joint author of the new, delivery focused, PRIME® project management method launched in 2011 and recently revised to be the first to comply with the new international project management standard ISO 12500:2012. For more on that, do visit www.prime-project-method.com.

As well as being an experienced Project Manager, Nick is also holds two UK teaching qualifications which helps him communicate particularly clearly both in print and on training courses. He is a member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) and also of the Institute of Directors (MIoD). He now lives in North Hampshire with his wife Kath who also works in the company. She used to be a primary school teacher and thought that projects were things you did in school about dinosaurs and the Romans :) She is up to speed with the business project world now and turned out to be particularly good at the product based planning technique which is in all of our project management courses.
