The Study Guide is easy to read and uses a case study to help you understand the various stages of Project Management. Whilst technical terminology is required to get you through the exam, the book is easy to understand, unlike some IT books! Sample test questions are also included on CD.

I did not go through the exam yet, but the book seems a reasonable and thorough guide for the material covered in the exam curriculum. In other words, what is written makes sense and can actually be used in real life projects (I have done just that...). Worth the money overall.
I gave it 4 stars because I still need to pass the exam... I may come back with a 5 stars review (or a three stars, who knows...)

concise and clear 22 Jun 2004
By "aspen_one" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
After reading the reviews of the first edition, I was somewhat skeptical about buying this book. However, since there is no other study guide available for the IT Project + (2003 Objectives), I decided to give it a shot.

This book is very well written. It is inline with the CompTIA updated objectives, and has loads of practice questions. After every chapter, you will find 20 multiple choice questions (along with their explanations). The companion CD has addition 120 drills, with explanations. The best feature is that the difficulty level of these questions is inline with the actual test questions (add 5 to 10% variance).

The only reason I am giving this book a four star is because of the typos. Although, the typos are not that misleading that you will end up learning a concept incorrectly, I believe the authors should have exercised a better quality control plan during the execution/controlling phase. Whoa. Do I sound like IT Project+ certified or what?

I passed the test. The only other material I used was the cram session study guide. It is written for the older version of the exam though. Why did I bother reading that guide? Because, at that point, this book was not available in the stores. If you have a good understanding of PM, and if you solve all the 350 multiple-choice questions that comes with this book (and the CD), the actual test will not be as hard, as most people think it is.

Not a great study guide, but good enough to help pass 4 Jun 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book could have gone through another iteration during its planning phase. The author seems to be trying to do two different things: 1) Teach good project management and 2) create a study guide for the CompTIA IT Project+ certification. As anyone knows when you try to serve two audiences you ultimately serve neither.

As far as a PM book goes, this is so-so. You will not know how to run a project from this book as the author glosses over major topics and muddles topics together to make everything fit into the objectives of the exam which makes it very hard to follow at times and you will find yourself jumping back and forth in the book. There are also too few examples to drive home the process.

As a study guide, well there is a fairly decent CD full of questions that will help you memorize concepts and terms. I found the questions to be a little easier than they should be and did not cover everything that is covered on the exam. More importantly, the terminology in the test does not match the terminology in the book! However, with some study, some experience, and this book you should be able to pass the IT Project+ test.

Lackluster 3 May 2002
By Mark M. Payne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I found the the book verbose, not clear or concise and difficult to structure for studying. The editor should have held him to no more than 350 pages. You come away from a chapter having to circle back and write your own summaries because the author 1) Did not provide you with topical summaries that actually summarize what he talked about - he just states that he talked about them. 2) Did not structure the chapter such that he fully completes one topic before moving on to another. Lastly I found many of his examples to be excessive in quantity and overly simplistic in content.
