5.0 out of 5 stars Get It! 15 April 2001
Format:Paperback
Part of my job is to manage multiple projects on a day to day basis. I have therefore been looking for a good book to help with improving the Project Management process. This book is the first (of maybe 20+) that I have read about Project Management that is short and to the point. It is clearly written by somebody who not only knows what he is talking about but also somebody who understands how to get his message across. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Project Management demystified: really! 12 Feb 2001
Format:Paperback
Hardened project managers may find the slightly tongue in cheek presentation a little hard to take, but this book is aimed at those who want to know more about the methodology without having to dive into the deep water of "serious" text books. Goeff Reiss manages to tread a fine line between lightness of touch and depth of focus. I can recommend this to anyone wanting to know more about the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Project Management. 21 April 2008
By Q
Format:Paperback
If you are new to Project Management, and even if you aren't, this is a cracking book to have.

It's coffee table readable but don't let that undermine it - its all sound stuff and plenty of "old hands" in project management would do well to read it as a refresher in the fundamentals.

You won't learn any fancy techniques - if you want those, look elsewhere, but, as it says on the cover, it Demystifies Project Management. (Which may upset some !!) However, once you know what it is, you have a better chance of doing it yourself.

Have a read of the first intro chaper on the Amazon site - if you don't like it, maybe it's not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get It Again 8 Nov 2003
By Nigel
Format:Paperback
I bought this book on the basis of reviews. Its an easy read and is a great overview to the whole process. Sure, in 200 pages you can't go into detail on every topic but the book doesn't try to. It is a great start point from which you can use the more classic reference books as support material. I'm now buying my second copy as I've already given away the first.... and I'll probably be back for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book that really repays the investment 29 April 2002
Format:Paperback
I was introduced to Geoff Reiss' book whilst doing my MBA. Since then I have kept a copy to hand ever since. I'm now on my fourth copy as I keep lending it to clients and friends and rarely seeing it back.
The style is readable, the concepts are well explained and you can dip in or read it end to end.
One of the nicest things about the book is that it is concise (200 odd pages). Obviously Geoff Reiss doesn't feel the need of academic authors to pad their work with verbiage and vast quantities of references. Perhaps the lesson here is "Those who can - keep it short, those who lecture can't"

This book was part of a reading list for my university course, it is not for one of my favourite units but I am really enjoying reading this book. It is very clear to understand and written very well. Geoff Reiss has made the book enjoyable and easy to pick up and read. I have found this very helpful and would definitely recommend it.

The book arrived promptly from the seller in good condition. It helped me understand project management on a basic level, but I did have to read other text books to complete my understanding

Review taken from Arras People's monthly project management book review.
In his book Project Management Demystified, Geoff Reiss takes a real-world, warts-and-all look at the experiences and skills of a project manager. He starts with the premise that a good project manager is unlikely to be recognised by their organisation; that if they run their projects well, they will remain invisible and that the only time their profile is raised is when their projects hit trouble. This view struck a chord, reminding me of a conversation I had with a colleague many years ago when we came to the belief that the organisation for which we then worked would recognise staff for winning large projects or for rescuing projects from the mire, but rarely for the successful and drama-free management of a project throughout its life cycle. Fortunately, side-marks mark the opportunities for the project manager to draw attention to their contribution.

In defining project management as a profession, it is described as being agnostic with regard to the business or type of project. A series of paragraphs introduce project management in many different areas, from publishing to space exploration, charity events to defence, construction to business change; and describe the nature of projects in each of these areas. The principles and techniques of the project manager are the same in each of these areas, in the same way that the principles and techniques used by an accountant are constant across industries. It is noted that project managers do not perform the productive work of the project, they manage that work.
